Got GTAs for my 85 Cutlass build

most people know that when your just browsing for parts on cl and you come across a real deal you have to go and snatch it up, even if your not ready for the part(s) or just plan on re selling.

last night me and my brother drove out to the middle of know were to pick these rims up in his wrx (surprisingly all four fit with me my brother and his gf in the car)

anyway the guy was real nice and i talked him down to $130 for the four gold GTA rims with bald tires (doesnt mean i cant do a couple burnouts with them) but there definitely not usable. but still i think i got them for a steal. they are fronts and rears so i will have to do some work to make them fit but lemme know what you guys think about painting them black, grey, silver, or keeping them gold....(the car will be grey/silver)

hey Mike, good steal! Can't find these rims up here for less than $400... and usually in rough condition.

If you're car's gonna be silver, I'd go for a "Charcoal Gray" colour like this
dc6.version1_charcoal_grey.jpg

Black would look good too, but it's been overdone with GNs... so your call

All four are 16x8.
the fronts have 4.75" backspacing
the rears have 5.25" backspacing

You can mount them in reverse, or mount them as directed, but in either case you will need a 1" adaptor for the "Back" wheel with 5.25" BS. Using a 1" adaptor will bring the BS down to 4.25" which is a far comfier fit for our cars.

I mounted the "Back" wheel on the front of my car using a 1" adaptor, but mostly because I didn't want to put alot power down on a adaptor. I don't do alot of hard cornering, so the adaptors work fine upfront.

In the rear, I did have to use a 3/8" spacer. Alot people have gotten away with a smaller one, like 1/4" or even 1/8"... it'll depend on your car.

My next problem was studs... the wheels have a thick casting, so with a spacer, my stock studs wouldn't reach far enough to grab enough threads. So I got some extended studs, 2-7/8" long... ARP or Moroso carry a wide variety.
But these long studs caused another problem... they were TOO long, so the normal "acorn" style lugnuts didn't seat. So I bought open ended ones.

Make sure you buy ones that are tall and have a proper conical seat. Small lug nuts will sit too deep, and you won't be able get a socket onto it.

... And I think it's worth mentioning, I had so many problems with studs because I kept the stock 7/16-20 thread size, which is not carried by alot of parts stores anymore. You'll be able to find more variety in a newer metric thread, and you may not need the full-on 3" extended type.

check out ARP for studs, and Gorilla for a variety of lugnuts.

one more thing...

when you're buying adaptors, avoid these (or any like it)
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TRD-7070/

these are cast alloys, and are known to shatter under heavy loads. Don't buy cheapies... It's good insurance to get Billet or Steel ones with Knurled and Pressed-in studs.

Got a Parts Car to help finish the project!

found this 85 cutlass on craigslist near me for 1200 and went to take a look at. its got a chevy 350 with 350 trans, guy didnt know what rear but were assuming its a posi because of the traction bars and drag radials that came with the car. it has a blue interior so i can grab any pieces im missing. the plan is to use the drivetrain on my car, plus anything else i need. the rest will be parted out. i got an extra header panel with the car and a hefty car cover. we talked him down to $800, here are some pics.
