My buddy's Cutlass has no heat. The A/C was removed at some point. There are two hoses that go from the engine to the firewall with no heater valve in the engine compartment. One hose is hot, the other dead cold.
Any ideas?

The heater core could be blocked. Try taking both heater hoses off and put a garden hose into one and turn it on. If you get little to nothing out of the other hose you've found the problem. Its also possible you may dislodge and flush out some junk and it may start working. If it's fine it's time to start checking out other possibilities.

Get a new Heater core. Is the thermostat opening and closing properly? I never got good heat in my 88 until the temperature was over 200 on the gauge.

please cover up the opening for the carb, it's easy for anything to crawl or drop into that opening

I'm going to try to flush the core this week.
I was basically trying to make sure there isn't an underdash water valve or something. Some the Mopars I work on have that.

So without a valve in the engine compartment, he should have heat ALL the time.

Yes, no valve. Hopefully, you get better heat than I got out of my 88. I have changed the heater core twice, didn't do much.

if that is the original heater core I would bring that in to get repaired before getting an aftermarket heater core. The brass originals are made alot better than the aftermarket. If you do get an aftermarket before you put it in I would put some more soder on the joint where the tubes meet the core. They cheap out on the solder and I have had them leak soon after it's installed due to the movement when installing the hoses

I assumed it was my rough handling, the reason I got a second replacement. They are also aluminum now, no longer Copper/Brass.
