If it isn't a wagon, then the SBC 305. The wagons got the SBO 307, I think.
 
You'd be looking at around 1000 for a rebuild, or you could splurge a little and spend a tick over 1600 bucks and get a built 200r4 out of a GN. All 200r4s have the dual/chevy bolt pattern. It'd last for a long time, and it'd be beefy enough if you ever wanted some more power. Although, stock normal 200r4s are really common still in junkyard cars. Try browsing the online classifieds, like craigslist.
 
I actually have an '89 Caprice 200-4R trans with the BOP bolt pattern. I was going to comment earlier that these cars came with the 200-4R. I believe the following year, they started putting 700-R4's in the Caprice and discontinued the 200-4R.
Mine is a CTF code trans...low performance model.
