We're back for another exciting episode of the mix and match A/C system! So here's the questions:

I have the original 1985 R4 Compressor from when the car was a V6 back in the ancient times of 1997. It has not been on the car since then, but still spins freely, and I kept the holes more or less sealed with duct tape. It has never been run with 134a, but that is the plan. Should I run it, or would a better plan be to pull a R4 off a 1994-95 S-10 which originally had 134a and just swap the compressor clutch from serpentine to the V belt configuration my car uses?

Second question: The condenser in my car came off a friend's 1984 Z-28, and has not seen use since 1996. I seem to remember him having the compressor fail in that car, but do not remember exactly why. I want to use it because the outlets are in a better spot than the V6 condenser as far as the 84 Z-28 hose set I am using. I do not know if it is safe to do so though, and wonder how I should go about cleaning it out so that it is safe.

All my hoses, O-rings, orifice tube, cycling switch and the dryer are new parts. I am trying to reuse old crap because I have it and do not have the cash to replace it. The reason for the Z-28 hoses and such is that they let me run the dual snorkel air filter base off that car, which is a rare piece in that it only saw use in L69 Camaros.

flush the condenser and see what comes out. if the connections were sealed it should be ok. (your local radiator shop may be able to leak/flow test it too)
with the compressor. it's a crap shoot no matter what. it may spin, but what about when the clutch is engaged? try and see if there's any oil in it. if the ports were sealed and it has oil you should be ok. it also depends on the o-rings. again, oil is good. if the o-rings have dried out, the new oil, which contains seal swell, may rejuvenate them. but who knows?
i'd try 'em, there isn't much to lose.
