I'm trying to look up the part number for an adapter u-joint for the 8.2 rear end I'm installing. I checked the series for each of the pinion yokes and they both come up as 1310. I know the 12 bolt has a 1350 pinion yoke series and I thought the 8.2 needed an adapter u-joint as well. Is there anyone here running a 8.2 that can educate me if don't require an adapter u-joint ..

thanks

I used an adapter joint when I put the 8.5 in my malibu, but I needed it because I run an early camaro driveshaft which had a smaller yoke than the G-body cars. I believe the part# I used was 3-3130, (Neapco from advance auto) there is no application that I know of for it, I just went into the store and asked to raid their u-joint shelf to find the one I needed, lol. I used to work there so they didn't have an issue with me doing that, . Can't confirm the 8.2 yoke size though, it sounds right to me.

what's got me confused is I was told I need an adapter u-joint but the pinion yokes are the same series so I'm wondering what's up....I can do it the easy way and pick up a u joint to see if it fits the yoke and if it does then I can just use what I have on the driveshaft but I am sitting in the office working so I was hoping to find out the real easy way...

They may have used two different series yokes depending on the application too. You may just have to look at exactly what your rear has on it, and take measurement, they are noticably different sizes (width wise) between the large and small (in my case it was the G vs F yoke).

your right they did have two different u-joints listed, one the same as a 7.5 and that one luckily enough fits so I can just drop my driveshaft in as is...thanks for your help... 🙂

When I used to put 8.5 rears in my 68' Firebird I used the adapter joint. Lakewood made it and it USED to be a common item....

I think the guy who told me I'd have to use an adapter u-joint thought I had a 12 bolt and those use an adapter u-joint. I'm glad I just use the standard one so if I ever have to change it finding one won't be an issue
