I know what im doing this summer! If you guys really have had good feedback then I might as well shoot for them too. -83MONTESS- Thats a killer interior! No I mean wow look at that. I want one now its beyond cool in a g body how much did you pay for the shifters only? Yes xitabl442 I would like to see the bottom of the shifters. Are they smooth shifting On a scale of 1-10 1=crashing gears 10=like butter. So how do they work exactly, are they like factory just the opposite way?
oh and sorry for your friend Kiwik_Cutty88 geuss He got a bad one...
I bought the shifters a few months after they started selling them. I think I paid $340 plus another $30-$40 to get them cut shorter by 4". I was never a fan of any of Kilduff shifters because they are all too big and cheesy looking but stumbled across these when looking for Lightning Rods. I prefer these over any Lightning Rods I have ever used because these feel stronger and higher quality. I have polished the rods since the photo was taken and they shine like they were chromed.

I guess another con for some people is that it takes a tiny bit of effort more to shift but to be honest I like the feeling better. You feel more sure shifting them because they make a bang and let you know it shifted instead of just sliding forward like most shifters. For someone that drives like a granny and wants a polite, quiet car then these probably arent for you because you're a p*ssy. If you wanna have some fun then these are for you. They made driving my car a lot more fun compared to the B&M Megashifter I had before.

The bottom of the shifter is flat which makes mounting it directly to the floor hump difficult. I just made up a small bracket for each side that allowed me to mount it sturdy and level. Mine came with good instructions with pictures so no worries there. If you have ever set up an aftermarket cable operated shifter before then you can do it. Literally no difference except shifter mounting. In fact mine came with a B&M trans pan bracket and cable. If you have an aftermarket shifter in now then this should go in with just a readjustment of the cable.

Another big thing I have noticed with these is the attention they get from people. I can't go anywhere without people seeing them and asking me how the hell they work or what they do so be prepared!

If I were them, I'd rename the rods. I wouldn't use a name used by another company. Thunder Rods wouldn't be a bad name to use.

Thats a good thing shifting a car shouldnt feel like a walk in a park. I understand what you mean. I dont have any aftermarket cables so ill just order it through them when time comes. I guess I would have to build an entire center console around the shifter too. Thats also one thing im afraid of, too much attention you can attract good attention and also bad. So I dont know. I think tinted windows would block on-lookers when parked alone. I may just seroiusly consider these before Carlisle GM nats.🙂 Oooh.

Yea maybe instead of "HURST LIGHTNING RODS" they should name it "BURST THUNDER STICKS".

I wonder if they would fi under a Malibu console? I was going to use the GP console, but have since changed my mind I think, so I need the shifter mechanicals to be as low profile as possible.

I can't imagine them fitting at all. You would have to somehow raise the console up. They werent even close to fitting with my Monte console. I was contemplating building a longer bottom to it with fiberglass and covering the lower portion with carpet like the GP console it but IMO you are better off getting the GP console. IIRC you already have the GP dash right? If so the swap doesnt look right without the console IMO. Makes the car feel lower on the inside almost like an 80s Fbody with the tall console.

I do have a grand prix console, it is in rough shape. But, I am trying to squeeze some additional electronics in there and the high console takes up space. Decisions decisions.

You could always make a custom console top like I did but build it to incorporate the extra electronics. I wanted to build a small gauge pod like the 67-69 Camaros had but lost interest. There is plenty of real estate with this thing to incorporate things into and to hide things under. I was even going to add 2 3" speakers in it. 1 on each side where the plastic vents were at.

I forgot my camera today so I'll get some pics tomorrow. I will say they feel very mechanical. I love how you pull them back to shift, seems like a more natural feel for an aggressive shift.

Don't spend the money for a light. You can get more lights for less money and put them where you want. I am thinking about making a new top plate or at least covering this one up and cutting the numbers out. It might be fine in a plain interior drag car, but I want something that I will look more OE. I plan to paint or cover the wood grain pieces in my car to look like the 87 parts or the GN color. I want to find some crappy ones to paint though, some of mine are too nice to paint.
