FIX THE ROOF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Engines are a dime a dozen wether it is a 305 350 or 454
A clean body, that is the hard to find part.
If that 305 is new and free grab it and give it a shot if it does not run nothing is lost.
Just make sure you prime it good and dump some oil into the cylinders b4 u start turning it over.
If it does not work u still have the $$ to fix your roof and that big block!
If that 305 does run just remember once you are ready to upgrade the engine you can always sell or pass it along to someone else trying to build there car.
If you are lossing compression in a couple of cylinders the first thing I would check are the valve springs. You may just have a quick $100.00 fix or even less depending on what cam you have or if the engine is stock. New set of springs and you could be good to go. And it is an easy job you dont have to pull the engine. Best of all you can do it yourself!
Start with the simple stuff. Do not asume the rings are gone and the bores are scrated right off the top of your head. Take a step back and take some time to pull off the covers and take a look . If you have zero compression there is a good chance a valve is open. If sand got into the engine everything would be wrecked crank bearings rod bearings etc
Does your car smoke at all? Does it tick or knock?
