Hi all, I’m doing my car over and swapping the 5.3/4l60e for a gen3 6.0 with gen4 internals, and 4l80e. Keeping the same turbo, but stepping up to the Terminator X Max. I have stock truck accessories with the DR44G 2pin alternator, they are telling me to go with a 4 pin and use their 197-400 4 pin connector. I’m electronics stupid, so this whole Holley setup is scaring the hell out of me to begin with, but my question is, what alternator should I go with? I don’t need a high amp setup and I have the factory AC Delco radio, and nothing else that would require anything serious, so just need something that would fit correctly and hopefully use the same length serpentine belt. Any help is appreciated!

They take the same belt. And you can 'run what you brung' in terms of alternator. Any alternator on a stock LS will run a G-body with a Holley. I've had a junkyard unit on there for quite some time - new to me from the junkyard lol.

It's the larger case than the standard LS 105amp version, but bolts right in.

Make sure to use a resistor in line on the one wire that goes in the 4 pin connector.

There is a brown/black wire underhood from the factory that works for a chassis source for the ALT. I used it initially on my swap. Also the Charging light for the factory gauge cluster works as an alt lead. It has the resistor built in.

Wow, I didn't do any of that. I have the 4 wire plug with a single wire in it that goes to my 12 volt source (sense wire). If I wanted the Holley to adjust voltage then I would hook that wire up to an output and change it's voltage via PWM based on battery voltage that the ECU sees. Perhaps a 2d table to make more voltage in boost. At the moment I don't see a need for that with 210 injectors and more than enough fuel pump.

I will admit that I don't have an idiot light in the dash.

Regarding the alternator, I like having parts such as an alternator be something that I can pickup at any auto parts store - it can make life easier when sh*t craps out. And of course the junkyard for us cheap SOB's 🙂🙂

Another question here a friend of mine asked, why use the 4 pin connector at all? Can’t I just run everything off the lug on the alternator? That’s what I did with the 4.8 that I’m swapping out.
