I have a 84 Grand Prix. Had a 305 in it. I swap it with a Chevy 350 that came out of a 94 Silverado. On my alternator I have a cut brown wire coming from it. Don't know what it hooks up to on the wire harness. I know it suppose to be going to my ignition but don't know which wire to hook it up too.Can someone help?

Intro & pics would be helpful. That brown wire is for the volt/generator light (small red light on volt gauge if equipted.) The other end is somewhere in the engine harness running along the red wires off the alternator.

Does your car have a charge, or alternator indicator light on the gauge? You can run a new lead from the brown alternator wire, or termination point to a spare switched +12 volt terminal on your fuse panel. You will probably need a small bulb or inline resistor attached to this wire...or try to find the cut end going into the harness plug.

Is this wire on the car wire harness or the alternator?

Are you using the alternator from the new engine?

Or the one that was already in the car?
