Are aluminum brake drums worth it, i know youll save like 10pounds on routating weight

i think they are. they dont do that much except they dont heat up as fast but if you can find them at a junkyard i bet you could get a pair for $10. and if you didnt like them i see people trying to get $100 for them. plus they wont rust and look shitty.

Yea ive found them on ebay for like 120 and i wanted to get some but wasnt forsure of the pros and cons

I'm not sure if all of them are this way, but I think some of them are all aluminum no steel even on the lining... And I've heard they don't stop too great. People like to put those old finned aluminum drums, I think they're off of Buicks, on the front of 32 Fords and T-buckets because they look cool though.

I could be totally wrong though, I'm just going off things I've heard.

I recently installed a set on my 86 cutty when I upgraded the rear from the 2.56s to 3.73 posi's. It is hard to say if there is a difference in feel bcause of the rotating weight, because I'm gaining accelleration all ready from the 3.73. But it stops the same as the steel drums. Don't think I would go out of my way to find a set though. My 2 cents.

I have several sets hid on the shelf If thr ride at wreckers had under 100000 (most did here) miles they r in good shape

. I ran on couple cars but don't think they grab as good . But would take a skid pad to know LOL.

They look good. I had set cleaned up for the 442 when I start working on it .

If your into improving your time at the track...Then hell yes they are worth it!!!! 10 lbs of spinning weight + a tenth in the quarter mile..... I have some and like them... 8)

Two questions: 1) Are you all using old G-body aluminum drums? 2) Are/have any of you used the '82-'84 F-body aluminum drums on your G-body?

Doug,
They are all the same and interchangeable. They will fit most vehicles from the '60s and up with the 5 x 4-3/4 bolt pattern and the 9-1/2 rear drums.
