I have a question about the olds aluminum rally wheels that olds made for 79 and 80 w30 hurst olds. What size were they 15'' or 14" inch? Are they a heavy wheel? What other olds cars can they be found on? How many years did they make the wheels? I have also seen them on the 442 of that era. Thanks. Bernhard

They are 14".

They came standard on the '79 H/O & '80 442, and were an option on Cutlass's in those years, though they don't seem to appear very often.

Here they are shown in a 1980 Olds dealer brochure.

Unfortunately these rims are only 14 x 6, which is too bad because they look cool.

H/O rims were gold accents .... the same wheel was an option in Argent

found a pre-repaint photo of my car .... Prior owner was prepping it when this was taken back in 98?

but it gives ya the idea how the N78 rims looked on a non-HO/the later body style.

Dr Ransom442. Thanks for posting the pic's. Do you have the color code for the argent accents on the N78 wheels? Is the color code for the wheels listed with the body paint code? Does anyone know what brand of paint GM used in the 78-88 years? Was it PPG? Thanks. Bernhard

yanno, I looked all through out my manuals illustrated parts, service manual, fisher body manual et cetera ... (and the 81 color chip and fabric folder - yes I have one) and there is no mention of a GM paint code or part number for wheel argent. I looked around the net and found several companies that make finishes for rally wheels but these "Silver-Argent" colors are way too light and bright in color. Having only seen ONE set of Argent N78s in my life .... I imagine painting them in just about any "close" color would go completely unnoticed. Ask any of the guys with a 442 that have perhaps had their bumpers refinished. That "argent" hue seems "right". Most other GM alloy wheels I've seen (i.e. IROC rims) used a charcoal insert ... this is way too dark.

Thanks for looking. Color chip and fabric chart that is cool. I will just use the color code from the 442 bumper if it is close. As my build will not be a number maching resto. I will be using the N78s wheels off a 1980 w30 and a rally steering wheel from the same car three spoke. My new turbo 350 trans is out of a 72 cutlass. All going in to a 86 2dr olds. When I do the interior I will use the 87 442 cutlass door panels and seats so the car will be a 72to87 G body. Thanks again. I so lost count on my "donors", but I can tell you they ain't even all Oldsmobiles, very little was left original by the prior owners' and I've jsut added to the confusion. I'm pretty handy with a parts manual so I never worry about "what part now fits" but if I ever sell the car .... I should probably make a list.
