Sup guys,

I was at my buddys house helping him with his elko and he was telling me after he put this thermostat in the water neck, that his 350 is not over heating and staying below 200degrees, which is where i would like to be..he mentioned this thermostat, am i suppose to have one in my water neck??

I know they sell them at our local auto parts stores, but will this make a different, seen them for like $5 spectre brand, and the floats are suppose to open at 160degrees.

I have dual electric fan set-up with a relay thats suppose to turn on my fans at 180degrees, but it dosent! On my gauge it shows they turn on around 225degrees, and that freaks me out!! , everythings new and relay, but will this "theremostat" in the water neck help me stay cool.. Its very hard to start once its in the 220degrees area becuase i think the engine is toooo hot.. School me on these thermostats.. Lol thanks

Just my 2 cents, but the thermostat alone will not keep it cool. The thermo will open at 160, but if you are not cooling the fliud in the radiator, it will eventually continue to heat up, the thermo will stay open and your temp will keep climbing. You have to get the fans to turn on sooner, if it can be adjusted. If not, most relays have a wire (mine is green) that you can use to bypass the temp activated on/off. It will keep the fans on while the engine is running and it will keep you COOL. I have a 350 with a blower and I stay around 160, even on 90 degree days. Hope that helps a little.

Ahh i see what ur saying, so with it or with out it will still climb up in heat,, ummm ok know if i keep my fans on everytime i turn the car on,wont i burn them out faster? Thats my only problem if i by pass them from not turning on by themselfs.. Maybe i should try a lower thermo relay, where they will turn on at 160, maybe i have a bad relay? Wait i cnt cause my fans are turning on, but at 225...

If you are driving it a lot in the summer, your fans will be on most of the time anyway. They are really only off for the first few minutes that the car is warming up. They should be able to handle being on. I have mine hooked up to the bypass and the fans have been fine. However, It is definately possible the the temp sensor in the relay is bad causing it to misread the temp, therefore thinking that it is turning it on at 160 when it is really 225. You could try a new relay. They are usually between 30 and 50 bucks.

I think i can use the relay wiring kit that i already have, and just get a new temp sensor that located on top of the intake... Good idea., thanks for the help🙂

So the thermostat in the water neck is not worth it?

Do you have a picture of your fans on your car? Have you always had the problem? Is the gauge aftermarket?

If there is no thermostat in the motor u have to install one. It will run hotter without one installed, because the is no restriction to slow down the coolant and it is circulating too quickley through the rad. Put a 160 stat in and replace the fan switch, u will see a world of differnce providing there is no other problems with the cooling system.

Pontiac455 is absolutely correct. Thermostats help your car warm up quicker and stay cooler once warm. You could use either a 160* or 180* and be fine. Also, I'd suggest moving your temp switch to the head instead of the intake. The intake will always read cooler than the rest of the engine especially if it's aluminum. By moving the switch to the head it will read hotter, sooner and actually turn on your fan. Ideally, the fan switch should be rated 10-15 degrees above thermostat rating.

What kind of fan switch you have and are they adjustable any pics. These are the ones I have I'm running 1 per fan even though they are rated to run 2 fans each but I melted 1 fan switch already trying to run 1 switch to 2 fans so I just bought 1 switch for each fan.1 comes on at 180 and if gets hotter the other comes on at 190 here's the link of what I have. http://m.summitracing.com/parts/der-16759/media

This is a fairly new project, all is brand new, equus gauges all around, so i have been driving the bu around to see what needs to be done, and so far is the fans kicking in at 225, i doubt the gauge is bad, it like super new...i had this same set up on my elko and was awesome, same fans and relay and gauges...
