Any Value to Old Magazines Anymore?

Years ago I donated mine to the city book recycling center and received a voucher for there estimated value to use as a tax write off which I just gave to my sister. I couldn't bear to leave them at the curb so they could be shredded and made into a cereal boxes but they will be eventually.

Wraith, kind of hard to see, but in the back area of my shop are shelves of car magazines. Each little magazine sleeve contains about 2 years of magazines. I've got some back to the 1950's. Quite often, I'll pull down a sleeve and pour a cup of coffee and thumb through the bunch. It's a hoot reading old tech articles and seeing how they dressed back then. Remember, you can learn from history (even in the automotive field). ... IMHO!

I have a few of my car magazines from the 80's and 90's and had to recycle a bunch of them when I moved in the early 90's. Too expensive to ship.

Best thing I did was keeping my favorite car mags from over the years. I enjoy breaking them out and going through them now and then. Brings back good memories.

I get nostalgic now and then and go through some of the car mags I kept that had articles on the Monte SS model like I own. Sometimes I reread tech articles dealing with our cars that has some great info and tips I might have forgotten about. Plus I feel the car mags back then are leaps and bounds above anything out today. I am just bias because some of my favorites cars are from 30 years ago.

I hate to throw them out, I've been lugging them around forever and can't just bring myself to recycle them. What's everyone else doing with theirs?

Which particular magazines do you have? I see Hot Rod on top. Is that the only title or are there others? What years do they span? Subscription or magazine rack purchases? Looks like you've got a pretty good sized stack there!

I just moved and as I was packing I ran across all of my old car magazines. I've got a small collection. I was subscribed to several different titles at once for little while. I'm like you guys, I used to study those magazines and apply the things I learned to my cars and my friend's cars. Magazines were great for inspiration too. Getting a car I built in a magazine was always a dream of mine. To me it was like an "award". Like a car show award x1000.

I hardly ever even glance at the magazine rack nowadays. The internet has spoiled me. I'm gonna hang on to my collection and after reading this thread I might go dig out a few and flip through them.

Other than nostalgia I would say there isn't any value to them. Maybe very old ones if they are even considered "collectible". With the way the internet is there is no sense in looking for certain magazines for answers when you can have it googled and fixed by time you find the right page. Maybe that's just me.

I however do have a collection of Sport Illustrated and Guitar World magazines that I would have a hard time parting with.

Nothing of any value there. They are mostly Hot Rod, Car Craft, and Chevy High Performance, few from the early 80's but mostly from late 80-00's. I know I have another stash in the house of American Iron, a few old Mini Truckin', and random Street Rodder too. The bulk of the collection was found a home back in 07', gave away twice this amount in Truckin' and Street Rodder during a move. I always considered them encyclopedias, lol, the internet has spoiled us!

I had to do the same and recycled a bunch of car mags I had before I moved many years ago.

Thankfully I kept all the mags on cars I had bought and I still look through them now and then to bring back memories of the car culture of the 80's. I was in college and working fulltime and enjoying life before reality kicked in like paying a mortgage, getting older, and everything else we dread. lol My old magazines remind me of a time my life was much simplier and less complicated. To use that old fart term: the good old days! lol
