Any Value to Old Magazines Anymore?

Probably a good idea but I have zero time and patience for eBay anymore.

Unless you’re space-constrained, maybe just take a photo and post one issue (or volume) a day, and see how it goes. Some people will pay quite a bit for old issues in pristine condition. Maybe contact the Petersen Museum to see if they’d be interested in them. They have a major archive department, and I know for a while they were actively searching for old issues of some titles.

it's depressing how thin the car mags are now compared to years ago.they were so much better w/all the ads etc.i remember stealing my brothers hot rod swimsuit issue, can't remember how long ago that was.I'm still about reading a magazine on Sunday morning w/coffee vs the web.

I remember in the late 80’s you could go to the grocery store and walk out with a dozen car mags at certain times. We had a brand new grocery store that was one of the first larger stores with other items beyond groceries. They had a great magazine section and I could easily spend $30 when each mag was a few bucks. Would spend the weekend just going cover to cover. That was a great time if you were a car nut. I think there were 7 or 8 magazines on Mustangs alone!

Even some of the hobby and collecting magazines were close to 300 pages and you could spend days going through them with all the articles.

Just like everything the Internet is both good and bad. One bad part is it has caused the change in the print industry. And like yourself I still find I like reading regular books and mags over using my tablet as an e reader. I am just one of those that still looks at tech and relates it to work and getting away from it is how I relax. Plus getting older and not seeing like I did in my twenties, trying to read a book on a smartphone and even a tablet can be difficult.

After I read them and they start to pile up, I go back through them and rip out the stories and features that interest me. Those go into a filing system I have based on topic.

This way, I keep what I want and it doesn't take up as much room as while magazines.

Some of the stuff is outdated now. But it's still neat to go back and look through it when I want to look up something. Besides, eventually what's old will one day be new again.

None of these are in immaculate shape. These are well read but taken care of from the days when I could only afford to look and dream.

Some of the best tech reference material I have is in older mags. I still have an engine swap issue of Hot Rod that covers a BBS into a mid '80's Monte. Another from the early '90's going over then available factory & aftermarket parts, tire sizes, the Eldelbrock TES headers (wish they still made them.) There is a ton of BOP engine info in those back issues that we'll never see in todays mags.

I bit the bullet and tossed tons of old magazines years ago. But I kept every one of my High Performance Pontiac and Thunder-Am issues. I have the entire run minus a few. They will not pass this way again and I treasure them. I still get Hot Rod but I don't save them. I love the inter-web for research but give me a factory manual every time when doing hands-on work.
