You might be pleasantly surprised how much less fumes there are after the filter was changed. Both of mine don't make any fuel smells after the first 10 seconds or so. It sounds like yours was running excessively rich for a while before it got bad enough to flame out.My hangar is around 900 sq ft, I just crack the door to keep from suffocating myself. The diesel doesn't seem to stink the way the kerosene does. I figured it would have been the opposite.
