hey all,

I was wondering how much it would cost to take my 100% stock 305 and stroke it. Is total cost counts parts and labor, because I would have a shop do it.

I know it would probably be more bang for my buck with a 350, but I kind of want something different. I want to tell people I have a 334, and them be like "I didn't know they made sbcs in that size". Honestly, I didn't know 334s were a thing until this past summer.

Anyways, I want to know if anyone has them, and how fun they are. My car is an 86 El Camino. It's a daily driver to school and work.

Very good article on what NOTto do with a 305. All small blocks look the same in a vehicle so to be on the cheap side just do a 350 and like the guy said, tell them its a warmed over 307. Their is no replacement for displacement.

did you solve the problem of keeping the car warm yet?
Lol no, not really. I planned on getting a marine engine heater and a solar panel that I could just sit on my dash, but after realizing that a 250watt solar panel is big money, I kind of dropped that idea

The only stroker 305 I'd ever do is on a 88-up 1-pc block. Which is not what you have if stock. If you don't have emissions rules about changing the engine, just go with a 350. Upgrade later to a fuel injection setup like a FAST kit.

Cost would be about the same as making a 383 out of a 350. Put one together recently using a turned down 400 crank, 5.565 400 rods, and 305 pistons. Wanted to keep the numbers matching block in the car(89 Camaro) is reason for doing it. Had all the parts laying around so figured why not be different. Using 400 crank and rods is the easiest as there is no cam clearance problem and less cutting cyl bores for rod clearance. Car runs good and will tear up the tires easy. Not a high rpm engine. If building from scratch and not numbers matching I would have done a 350 but it's your car and do it like you want.
