I had new floors welded in my car during a frame off. All went back togeather with new poly bushings and now my door to quarter gap is off. Top of the door gap is double the size of bottom of the door. I don't know what the problem is, bad weld job? Poly bushing issues? Frame is sagging from being on a 2 post lift too long.. Anyone ever have a problem like this? It's a ttop regal.

Re: Anyone have body alignment issues after new poly bushing

You can rule out the poly bushings. How extensive was the welding and rust repair on the body? Perhaps the body wasn't supported properly during the welding and floor replacement.
Or there's an issue with the frame? Somehow I think it's more "body"related.

For example, one of the cars that I restored, a Porsche 914. I had replaced metal under the battery area which included part of the frame structure and wheel house. The door gap on that side wasn't quite the same afterward. I think because I didn't support the door opening properly when I did the welding, I distorted the structure somewhat..and probably overheated the metal in that area. Everything looked fine until I reinstalled the door and realized the door gap closed in at the top.

Maybe its that the gaps are adjusted with the old bushings(a bit worn maybe) and the body is now on new PU bushings, there is always a little bit of flex into a body

Check your door pins. It sounds like the same issue I had after I replaced all my bodymounts. My drivers door had to be pulled up and slammed in the same motion. Four new pins and bushings and my doors were closing better then when car was new.
I would start with new pins and bushings.

Re: Anyone have body alignment issues after new poly bushing

I welded a new floor in my T-Top GP and just had the body supported in the back and front. The doors were off when the floor was put in but they went back on without any issues. The body isn't that heavy and structurally it's strongest along the channel the body has the anchors at the body mount locations so I don't think it would fold with the floor cut out. How does the T Top align on the driver's side

Re: Anyone have body alignment issues after new poly bushing

The body was welded with the doors on. It was supported by a two post lift with the arms near firewall and In front of rear wheel. I havnt tried the ttops yet cause I have no seals attached to the car. I read the GNX bushings help square the body to the frame keeping side to side alignment correct. I don't know if maybe the poly isint in correct and maybe pushing the body up in that area. Do the gnx busings fit in the body or just the frame? I don't think it has anything to do with the door pins because if I align it to the quarter panel witch I can do the gap is off on the rocker panel. If I put jack stands under front and rear horns the gaps look correct. I don't think the car has ever been hit but I'm going to try and bring it to a frame alignment place and see if it's possiable the frame sagged??I'm just hoping its not a welding problem.

Re: Anyone have body alignment issues after new poly bushing

I'm not sure what you mean by GNX bushings. As far as I know all the bushings and locations are the same on all G bodies. If you look under the car inbetween the frame and body that gap should be consistent all along the c channel

The "gnx" bushing I'm speaking of are the #5 location they don't have a bolt through them. They just fit into a hole on the frame and get sandwiched between body and frame. These only came on gnx's from the factory. I'm just tossing the idea around that they might be to tall or fit into a notch in the body and not seated right and causing that part of the body to sit high.

I don't believe the #5 bushings only came on the GNX's from the factory. I just changed my bushings on the 85 442 and it had the #5s in there.
