I would go with an LS style Iron 6.0L, it would cost more to buy than the Toro, but would probably cost less to install due to the smaller size and part availability, plus it would weigh less too. But then again, I would put an Iron 6.0L in anything. I love the SBC in my GP, but it is the last one I will ever build. We need to admit that the SBC is going the way of the Flat Head. It is still a good engine and great for nostalgia, but it is obsolete.

if you want to wake up your SBC then drop a couple of vortec heads on it and I don't think you'll think it's just a great engine for nostalgia...there's a bunch of cars out the racing around circle tracks on new 602 crate engines...it's a 350 with vortec heads

Don't get me wrong, I am not displeased with the performance of my SBC. I have BowTie Heads and an LT4 Hot Cam, it performs pretty well. I just prefer the newer engines for reliability and gas mileage. I may have been too hard on the SBC they are still very useful engines with lots of potential. But when you can get a 6.0L for under a grand, drop a set of heads and a cam in it and be well over 400HP, with a stout platform for boost. A well planned and built SBC can do that, but it seems to take more work.

I've seen it done with an Olds 455, but it the engine did stick out of the hood. I've also seen a ton of SC 3800 and SBC swaps in Fiero's - there is a whole group of them that go to one of the local cruise nights. I've always liked those cars for some reason. An 88 GT would sure make a fun/nice little daily commuter car 🙂

I've since decided to do a 454 w/a T56 in my LS so for now I'm not gonna be able to finance any extra projects 🙁 but, on a good note.....my Monte should be alittle more fun next year
