Good luck on the first day, sounds like you made the right choice. Besides just as you said it's worth a shot, you'll never know if you never try

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I'm looking forward to driving the new Z11 Camaro and maybe the new ZR1 if we get them. I think things will be fine. Judging from the salesman I've already met I seem to be one of the few true car guys in sales. I'll find my niche and have fun with it somehow. Adapt and overcome!

Success in car sales is largely based on relationships, dedication, persistance and networking. You have to commit yourself to the long hours, weekends, nights, holidays... etc, at the dealership or you wont make it. Learn as much as you can as fast as you can, and if you are good, you will know it. If you struggle, it will be much harder. The real honey is in Used cars, which have a much higher markup and bigger commissions, but you really need experience for that. I sold new Fords at one of the largest dealerships in Central Florida for about a year and I spent all day and night there 7 days a week for most of that year... and finally I got burnt out. You have to be prepared for rejection, but able to bounce back quickly and learn from the experience. Sales is very rewarding, but can also be very frustrating as well. I wish you Good Luck! Buy a Dayplanner and a good pen to write the deals with!

Well tomorrow is the first day on the new job so we'll see how it goes. It's a crap shoot but I'm confident things will turn out fine. Anything beats the circus I just left.

If it doesn't pan out at least I gave it a shot rather than remain miserable without trying.

good luck and I'm sure it'll work out great for you....

i work for a dealership (that sells new and used)now as a tech. 99.99999% of salesmen know nothing about cars and are scumbags. they will do anything to sell a car and truly don't care about anything else. Sales department skimp on repairing used vehicles were repairs are needed and dump it onto the unknowing customer. I would never ever bring myself to that level.

Yesterday I did a lot of sitting around and was bored out of my mind for the most part. I'm one of those "hit the ground running" type of guys and this process is dragging so far. Some of the other sales guys are strange birds IMO too

The one major thing that I'm put off by is the lack of a structured training program. The GM runs the show with the training but he's so busy that it seems like nothing is done with punctuality. The atmosphere is so lax that it seems like there's no sense of urgency.

Could it be that I've been misplaced again?

I think it's the time of year, people are getting back into the routines of kids going to school and stuff so buying a car may not be on the agenda. Plus when do the cars for 2012 show up in the showroom?

I used to study the brochures on the cars/trucks and walk the lot, trying to get a feel for the inventory, I closed a lot of sales by finding people "just looking"...took them for a test drive, bought them a coke, and sold them...Know your product, and the more info you can spit out about the car without having to look it up, the better you look to the buyer...just some advice 😀

So far, so good. It's a nice lax atmosphere compared to what I left. It's nice coming home at a decent hours and being able to see my daughter before she goes to bed.

I know some of you guys have a lot of bad things to say but it's one of those jobs that become what you make of it. I could see it being a drag if you rely on walk-ins for income. I've been building a client base since I left my other job and the plan is to get as much referral traffic as possible. If you're organized, set goals and track what you do there's no way you can't succeed. Besides, there's too many things I want that my 45K per year job couldn't support, not to mention the child support I pay.

I get to see cool sh*t like this all day too. I want that ZL427!

I haven't been on here much lately because of work but here's a few more pics of a few things on the lot and in the showroom.
