I used to play with the audio in my 442 quite a bit. I think you will be happier if you put the speakers in the kick panels rather than the door panels. In the door panels, the sound is blocked by the legs of the occupants. But the kick panels are more open. I bought a set from Q-logic that was color-matched to my gray interior, and they fit great. They had an opening for a 5.25 woofer and a tweeter. I dropped a set of Boston Acustics Pro Series component set in them and they were AWESOME!!! Food for thought...

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a set of these kick panels for sale if anybody is interested.

The ones I looked at had carpet and ready to install cept the switchs

gbodyparts give an option to match your interior color/carpet for xtra $$$ but i figured i can match the paint n do the carpet myself 🙂

I have fiberglass door panels with J/l xr seperates in all for doors, 3 ways in the front, 2 ways in the rear, but I like my metal loud!

I saw a few pics with people using the single lowers, and there are inserts for the rear side panels also. Seems to be the less obtrusive way to add some decent speakers.

to me those double speakers lowers suck. i had them and sold them right away and glad thats over. if yall like them more power to ya. dont let my pics fool ya because they look good in these shots.

couple reasons why:
1. plastic was to thin on them or at least when i bought my set when they 1st came out years ago.
2. they were advertised to fit 6.5's but not really true. the average 6.5's will not fit so therefore the panel isnt sitting flush on the door skin.
3. the angles are bad.
4. no speaker grills come with them but thats been said already

i got quoted $250 for real custom fiberglass lower door panels so its best to look around your area first.

i ordered my set from Gbodyparts, they came in earlier this week, they dont come with speaker covers or grilles but the speaker set u buy should come wit some already, i havent had time to install them but i noticed i have to cut out the lock switches and the back side doesnt have any slots for those plastic door clips... so ima have to figur out how to install them? :?

We don't cut out the power locks because some cars are power & some aren't.
We stopped offering speakers & grills as we didn't want to have to deal with any problems that may arise under warranty.
On the mounting kit:
There are 3 screws provided that go thru the lower door panel that attach it. Then you have the 2 #12 Phillips heads that come from the factory to mount the top. The screws on the bottom are not all the way on the bottom but behind the plastic covered area.

With 5 screws, the speaker mounted to the door, & the upper panel locking it in the Christmas tree clips are not needed.

deanlemans81 actually you can find the speakers as far back as 84 for the concert sound 2. We re made the baskets for the speakers. http://www.gbodyparts.com/product_info. ... 52b5c6e3c5
We are working with another company on making the actual out side covers so you can modify your factory door panels. It will be less expensive & a lot less work.
