Hey guys.

I was just wondering... Are our Grand Prix's rare? I mean, you just don't see many of them. Why is this? Did they just not sell alot of them? Were they not that popular? Did they not hold up? I've rarely ever seen one at a car show. I've only ever seen 1 2+2 GP and 1 85 that the kid lives by me. lol. Even in Nascar there were only a handfull of them used. What's the dilly-o? I'm not asking because I want a collectors item. I just want to know what's up. I mean, especially when they were new, they were GREAT looking cars...

BTW: Does anyone have any links or scans of any brochures or other factory stuff? I have all of the 85 Grand Prix/Bonneville stuff that come with the car in the glovebox except the brochure. The car even came with a map from 1973. lol.

Also, I just wanted to know what was up with my GP. It's optioned seeminly weird. I wanted an RPO code list to see what the car all has in terms of options. I only have a V6-er, yet the car has 5 (yes 5) Rally-II 14's, full size Rally-II spare tire (with Good-Year whitewall), vinyl Landau top, rear defroster, stuff like that. Just werid stuff to be on a cheaper V6 model. But then it has manual windows and locks, bench seat, etc.

Let's get the GP information out there!

:!:

Your right about Grand Prix's are not as abundant as some other G bodies. That is because it takes a higher class individual to appeciate the Grand Prix and there are fewer of us than the commoners.....

Isn't "Grand Prix" Polish for "big prick"?

I don't think I have heard of that one......but now I know why all the polish women I have met get real cosey with me when the find out I have a Grand Prix.....

They are by far the least common/popular of the 81-88 G-bodies. Much of it is due to many people not liking the styling as much to be honest. I didn't care for them originally either, but they have grown on me.

As for the options, a customer could order what they wanted for the most part so it depended on the individual. Dealer ordered cars are usually equipped with the fancy stuff that makes the car look good and luxurious, while customer ordered cars usually are a little more here and there. My 85 SS only has A/C, defrost, AM/FM radio, tilt and buckets/console.

Grand Prixs were fairly popular around southern Ontario back in the day. Maybe not quite as popular as some of the other G bodies, but I can remember seeing quite a few of them around here. But as with many other cars, it seems that when they're popular, you can see them everywhere, then they just kind of disappear. I purchased an '86 2+2 about a year ago. Its going to be a fairly big project to bring it back to good shape again, and finding parts for it is proving to be much more challenging than finding other G body parts.

Yeah, I mean, I originally loved G-bodies because of Monte SS's and Grand Nationals. I didn't even know there was a Pontiac one. lol. Noone really has them around me at least. Besides mine, I've seriously seen 2 ever. It's basically a Monte on the outside but with a big grill and more contour to the trunk lid and stuff. But it shares the same rear quarter window as the Monte, unlike the other G's. I liked that. Plus, I really like the dash of the GP. It's really nice. I can't wait to put my gauges in place of the dummy lights. It's just what it needs.

You can contact pontiac historical society and get some info on your model. I got a copy of the original window sticker for my 87 GP and some other literature.

Grand Prixs

It's funny how someone wasn't aware of Grand Prix they were made long before Monte Carlos and Buick Regals. I guess most people on this forum is under 30?
