Some of those imports give off a sound in between a Jake brake on helium and a cow giving birth, one good thing, is when they junk their car one day, they can save and use their exhaust tips for stove pipes.

Ha!

I'm used to fart can hondas and other 4 cyl stuff, but those GTI's have a special sound that's just terrible. Maybe it's just this one that's in my neighborhood, but it sounds like a goofy resonator on a fart can, it just sounds unatural.

I truly love and respect all cars, and the Honda/ import and 4 cyl scene isn't my thing ( obviously i'm here on a "G" body forum 😉 ) But I truly respect and enjoy the creativity at shows of some of their nice builds, and then you have some that ....WOW..... if your spending that kinda coin, and the sound results are like that, id almost be embarrassed to drive that through town, God forbid if you were leaving a Taco Bell🤣

I have no problem with people building small motors but keep them quiet. I tell the guys on my Challenger site that no aftermarket systems sound good on the 3.6 Pentastar, stock is quiet and sounds good. FCA no doubt spent money to build a system that filters out bad sounds. The resonators are basically straight through baffled chambers. Nearly anything less than 8 cylinders sound bad loud, with some exceptions.

Some jerk has one that drives infront of my house daily has a gti with an exhaust and I swear it's the absolutely worst exhaust note of almost any any car I've ever heard. It sounds like a loud fart.

I'm not a big fan of GTIs and I'm generally not a fan of the people who drive them either. I just laugh because car magazines give them so much praise. I used to get Car and Driver and I canceled my subscription because every 3rd article was about the GTI or Miata.

I like plenty of imports but the Tokyo Drift exhausts are really obnoxious.

Well at least the exhaust isn't fake.

To each their own, I love my GTI... Other than the 125 mph governor. Car handles great, brakes are awesome, it's respectably quick off the line, and will happily do 100 down the highway while being smooth, quiet, and getting over 25 mpg with a great sound system. All for about the price of a Civic or some other boring car.

I want to put a tune (worth at least 70 horsepower and removes the governor), cold air, downpipe, and full exhaust on it, but I'm worried about voiding the warranty I only have about 4,500 miles on it since new in February. People lower them but it's already so low I really don't see the point, maybe just some stickier tires, but I can take 25 mph off ramps at 90 without the tires even groaning as it is.

I'm sure they are a fine car, I just have no interest in them. Or really any other VW. I do like the plaid upholstery though.

Fair enough, to be honest I agree with not caring for most VW guys... I just got it because I wanted a brand spanking new reliable car that was fun to drive, and it was kind of a bargain, got it for dealer invoice price. I see why the VW guys love them, but I could never be a self described VW guy. 😝

My first car was a Golf Trek, it basically was a 4 door gti. I loved that thing but it was gutless. I had a horrible sounding exhaust on it, but I was 17 and didn’t know any better. I wound up trading it in for a Jetta with a 1.8 turbo motor in it. A trip to the tuner for a chip, and it gained 50hp. I had a good exhaust on it that used a borla muffler and it wasn’t too loud. The car was a rocket when the turbo spooked up. My friends car with the same set up ran low 14’s in Englishtown, which wasn’t too bad for a pretty much stock car. Had to get rid of that car for a pickup though.

I've driven the old 1.8T GTI's they are quick when they're spooled up. The Mark V, VI, and VII GTI's with the direct injected 2.0T have a lot more torque and mid range than the 1.8's did, probably more fun in my opinion, but they don't really pull hard up top like the 1.8's, or at least it doesn't feel like it maybe because most of the punch is from like 2,500-4,500 rpm.

I definitely want to soup mine up a bit but I don't want to make it loud, like you said. Other than I wouldn't mind hearing the turbo spool up more and a little more of a hiss when the blow off valve opens. I'll have to do some research on what exhausts give the best power increases with the least amount of noise.
