Astroroof seal replacement

Yes you could get a turbo Buick with the cf5 sunroof. I had an 85 T-Type some years back that had the glass one. I actually cut the entire roof off the car when I parted it out and saved it with plans to transplant it onto my GP but got sick of it always being in the way and wound up selling it dirt cheap just to get rid of it.

Illustrations I posted in the Regal section of the sunroof for 1980. I do see 20062590 but need to look at the other NPN books to see when the engineers had changed to 20162930

It appears that 20066468 was the correct number where 20162930 was on the parts book information I had. Which is TOTALLY screwed up. It is for full vinyl top anyway, so it doesn't apply to the CO4 landau top cars.

If you have metal and no vinyl surrounding your sunroof panel from the factory, once again, your part number for weatherstrip is 20062590. Which was discontinued from GM around 16 years ago.

Goodmark has a set too. Is this what Tamraz's and everyone is selling? You can get a set from Rockauto.com for less than 100 bucks...

I will look at the 1981 book for any info. I wonder if there was a design change to the seal
It's hard to tell sometimes. It's a yes/no/maybe (pick one) kind of thing. Based on my experience, sometimes a vendor is changed for a certain part or parts, and then they get a new number, or if there was a design change like a smaller or larger size lip, or stiffer or softer, etc. Sometimes they keep the same part number anyway. Case in point, I used to buy the round hook head dipsticks for SBO. Then they went to yellow T-handles. SAME part number. WTF.

I have seen part numbers change but the part it self had not change. With the body change from 80 to 81 did the roof line change a bit to make a change to part number or seal, who knows.

The original 1980 parts books that had listings for 81 had the same old part number for A-body 78-81. So I'm guessing it was during or end of the 81 model year.

Anyone need a genuine GM pan seal for astroroof? Not a bad price for GM parts. P/N 20162930. Sorry doesn't appear to be a panel seal, just the pan seal.

A year ago, the answer would most definitely have been “YES!!!” Not so much now. I don’t have to drop the entire pan for anything now.

There’s a procedure in my 1980 FSM that outlines a way to remove the outer panel without having to drop the headliner and pull the pan out, so that’s what I’ll be doing when it’s time to revisit the outer seal debacle on mine.

Since no NOS outer pan seal is likely to miraculously come available in the next month or so, yesterday I picked up this...

...with the intent of submerging my original pan seal in it for the next few months to try and re-hydrate it a bit. It was the closest thing I could find to a weatherstripping conditioner in bulk form.

I’m thinking pour this stuff in a shallow bucket, submerge the seal in it, and weigh it down. Then let ‘er soak for as long as possible. It’s a long shot I know, but my options are severely limited at this point. Wish me luck, and I’ll let everybody know how it worked out when the time comes.
