Awful Belt Squeal Issue

Best solution IMO is to just keep the AC. Deleting just the compressor just leaves all the other sh*t sticking out of your firewall looking like butchered up crap. I can't believe how many G-body owners do that to their cars and think it looks good.

Well the issue is, I dont know how the compressor goes back on. Thats why I am looking for just a PS Alt setup. 🙁

The horsepower gain is so minute, not worth it. Another reason is because the R4 compressors are junk, a few have made noise and piled up on me.

I had the same exact problem when I used the 307 engine brackets. For a short period, I simply ran the belt to the compressor just so it wouldn't squeal, this did fine until I got some brackets. I ended up getting alt and ps brackets from a 78-80 Cutlass with a 260 V8 and installed a double row pulley on the ps pump for extra protection. The older pulleys are of much higher quality IMO; the 307 brackets are flimsy comparatively. I don't think you should have any trouble finding a 78-80 or older car with an olds v8 to grab the brackets from. I hate to see you spend a fortune on a new set up when the older brackets can be found in the salvage yards for very little money. I know for sure that 1968-1989ish? olds small block engine brackets interchange, the pre '68 brackets may work as well, but I'm not sure.

I got an alt bracket that works great so far. However, I replaced the water pump with one that was made for cars without ac and the pulley sticks out too far to line up with the crank and alternator. I also got a water pump pulley and crank pulley for non ac cars. Here is a link to the pump i bought. Is it the wrong one?

The A/C water pump works just fine with the non-AC passenger side mounted alternator. The only detail here is that you need to run the three groove crank & water pump pulleys. With this setup you will end up with one empty groove in the center. The only reason I mention this is because you can use all of the Olds AC setup with the exception on the passenger side alt bracket.

You can still buy new Olds alt bracket as well as stamped or billet pulleys from a few of the online olds vendors. Only detail here is to stay away from the under-drive pulleys. Billet pulleys are available in both under-drive and standard.

I already bought the non AC water pump and installed it. I think I have the wrong pulley. I will take a pic and upload it here in a few.

Can someone who has a non AC car post some detailed pictures of their setup? I'm by no means a mechanic so any pictures are appreciated. :-(

What I was trying to do was too above and beyond what I needed to work so I just used old water pump and old crank pulley and it's working now. Thanks for the tip foxtrot

Just got home from a day out with the family!

Anywho, there are a few different accessory setups for the Olds motor and when you start to mix and match different setups, you never can tell what's going to line up. This is why I made the suggestion that I did because I know that it works.

I'm glad you're all set now.
