I'm torn between working on my 1985 Regal Limited, getting that SBB swap, and my '70 Thunderbird which this summer (after the Regal is done, still need a DD), the body is getting separated off the frame to repair some gnarly rot and rust. Nothing that can't be fixed, but it'll take awhile.

The sbb should not take you too long. Weekend if you have all the parts and a place to work.

400-500 HP will be way more than perfect for a street driven G-Body😀

A few years back we raced the "green machine" with a stock 350 and an automatic trans. and it faired rather well with all the suspension upgrades!

Craig
The car drivers and rides like a new one in 1980. My plan is power train, blazer spindles, good anti roll bars. Suspension upgrades down the line. Might be a black monte chasing you some day!

Yeah, the swap is going to be the easy part. Almost done with it now. Need to get a harmonic balancer (Screw those 500$ SFI ones. 250$ for an OEM one from TA Performance is still a lot, but it's less than 500.), and normal break in fluids and probably a new timing cover. Swap will be cake. If I can swap a SBC into a manual truck with trans still in with a lift kit where the hood line is about nipple level, at 2 AM, with 1 and a half people helping, and it being my first swap ever, I'm sure I can handle this lol. I can't wait to hear that Buick burble. That .469 lift cam I got (comp 268h kit) should be nice. Neighbors probably won't like it though.

I'm glad you are going with a buick. Different than a chevy and more challenging. Open headers at two in the morning don't go over good with neighbors!

Thanks. And yeah. At very first I was gonna drop a SBC into it, but as I started reading about buick motors, I got the idea. What finally tipped me over the edge was that buildup of one from Horsepower TV, and they got 303hp out if a 155hp 1977 smog block and heads and qjet. Really the only things you have to watch out for on Buicks is the oiling system. And bearing clearances must be spot on. Other than that, and it being a front mount distributor (in the timing cover so no need to pull dist. if you want to swap intakes 😀) And plus the 350 buick and 3.8 were made on the same line so it's just -/+ 2 cylinders. The bore is the same too.

I think the projects I have been watching are hibernating! I think it would be better to save the pictures up of a build till your half way done and then post them with a write up every couple of days. Rather than post something and then not add to it for months. What do you think?
