Baltimore's Speed Cameras Unreliable

In the late '90s they installed red-lite cameras all over downtown Minneapolis.
A few years later they had been deemed unlawful due to discrepancies. They were all removed and every single fine had to be refunded.

Iowa loves to use red light cameras and speed cameras. I only live an hour from Sioux City, IA. Along I-29 through town, they have the speed boxes setup along side of the road right when you enter the state from South Dakota. Of course the speed limit drops from 65 down to 55. The first thing you see is the 55 sign, then 1/8 mile behind it is the speed box. They say its not the "raise revenue". We used to have red light cameras in Sioux Falls, SD until the state supreme court ruled that they violated your due process rights, and had to turn them off.

I never understood the problem that people have with red light cameras but maybe thats because im from a smaller town without any. I dont agree with having them but at the same time I dont run red lights but I wanna chase down the stupid ****sticks that do. I do however have an issue with shortening yellow light time. I have noticed in my area at least that the yellow light is getting quicker and quicker here.

Thats what they do. Put the red light camera up, and shorten the yellow to almost nothing. Its not hard to figure out why.

Even Waterloo Regional Police officers are getting caught by red-light cameras.

A report says 12 red-light camera tickets were issued to the service in 2012. The Record says half of those tickets resulted
in notes on officers’ records.

The police chief says none of the infractions resulted in collisions.

Police Services Board Chair, Tom Galloway says police must abide by the Highway Traffic Act like all other vehicles.

A red light ticket costs over $300, which in this case taxpayers are on the hook for.

The region has a total of 16 red light cameras.

This is where I live so I even get to pay for the police to run red lights. They know the officer who was driving.. :wtf:

I wonder if the officers were running hot (lights and sirens) when they got caught. If they are making the city pay these citations when the cops are responding to emergency calls, that's not right. If they were on retinue patrol, the officer should pay it.

even if they are an emergency call they are required to stop at a red to make sure the coast is clear. Also if they are on a call they time is recorded and the red light ticket has a time and date stamp. I have a feeling it's in their collective agreement that they are not financially liable for tickets against registered owner, like parking tickets whwere the ticket is left on the windshield and red light tickets where the driver is unknown to the issuer and it just gets mailed out to the registered owner

Retired NYCEMS here and when the red light cameras showed up in the city in the Early 90's, if our ambulance showed up on a camera, you had better be on a run with lights and sirens. Or, the internal affairs division ( I forgot their official name other than dung balls) would pay you a visit and discipline you. Either by fine or vacation time. A lot of red light accidents involved with emergency vehicles in NYC.
