I do like me some Thunderbirds. Nothing will ever match my '70 though. I loved that thing. 429, MSD ignition. One tire fire for as long as I kept my foot on the Joe Dirt Foot gas pedal. Oh, and SUICIDE DOORS. I wonder how much that 650$ beater would've sold at BJ... maybe 675$?View attachment 63766
Absolutely they would they have been making them for Tri-5's and others when you could buy a nice one for 5k.
There prices are absolutely ridiculous Just a bunch of spoiled kids running up the prices.
There cars are FAR from perfect, That's why they rarely drive them up on stage anymore.
Half of them run like crap.
Look at yesterdays broadcast they couldn't even get one of the cars started and quickly got the camera off it.
Why do you think car prices have increase so much over the years.
Look at ebay who the hell is going to pay 11k for an nothing special 85 Grand Prix??

You can blame these auctions and shows like Pawn Stars and American Pickers.
Everyone thinks they have rusty gold now.
Barrett Jackson isn't giving people free crack to smoke.
Car Prices have increased because restoring cars is expensive,

If an Idiot on Ebay is asking $11,000 for an '85 Grand Prix, you can send him the Barrett-Jackson Website where a Perfect 24K mile '85 GP sold for $6,600, then tell him to take off another 18% for the buyer/sellers fees and a PERFECT '85 GP is "worth" $5,400 and the base the value on a lesser car off that.
Barrett Jackson works both ways.
Here is nice 2+2 with 34K miles that sold for $11,000 ($9,000 after/buyer seller commission or about 1/2 what it sold for new).
Is Barrett-Jackson driving up the Price of G-bodies? would ANY of us complain if they were?
I agree with you. Auctions don't drive up prices. The market is whatever someone is willing to pay for something. As many guys have stated, it's just expensive to update and/or restore cars. You could buy an used 2012 Camaro SS and probably come out better than if you tried to make your 30+ year old car handle like that Camaro SS, plus fixed the body work, creature comforts, etc...

It's all about supply and demand - how bad do you want it - and how big is your pockets just to say "looky what I got"
My turbo stang is a prime example - very rare - no demand - no money.
