Hello, I'm new to the forum so thanks for any responses. I Just got my 83' Cutlass a month ago and have taken all of the interior out and was wanting to just put in new front seats and move the battery to the backseat, my question is that is it legal to change the location of the battery and if it is then what would be a good way to make that change as far as a battery box and where to run cables? I've been looking at QUICKCAR cable kits and thought they would be a good buy. Once again thanks for any responses and I'm glad to be a part of the community!

You would want to put the battery in the trunk and not in the back seat area.
I am not really a fan of the "battery relocation kits" they always seem overpriced and undersized IMO so I like to make my own cables using 1/0 fine strand welding cable with copper lugs on the ends.

VW beetles had them under the back seat. It doesn't occur to me to think about things like that being legal or not. The government should have better things to do than dictate what I'm doing with a car battery. Is it a good idea? Probably not. The trunk is a better solution.

Any lead/acid battery needs to be vented outside of the passenger compartment which includes the trunk unless you seal the seat back. A dry or gel cell is a much better choice. Also, if you plan on any organized racing, you'll probably need a remote cutoff switch.
