thanks alot man but like i have one of the old belts dont no where the other 2 went off to. but um is there a belt or a pic i can pull up of the same motor as minds just to look at the belt and see what i am gonna be workin with u get me. so prob in morning i will go to auto part store and try again because today did not get me any where lol

Go to AZ and ask for a PARTS SPECIALIST/GREY SHIRT or a Manager. If your car has a smog pump, make sure you tell them that, if it has A/C, tell them that too. You should need 4 belts. One for the fan and alternator, one for the smog pump, one for the power steering, and one for the a/c . Your fan pulley should have 4 grooves and your crank shaft pulley should have 3. The only belt that doesnt run down to the crankshaft pulley is the smog pump belt, if Im not mistaken (been a while since Ive seen this set up).

so wait, THEY don't have a diagram saying what is what?
god i hate the cheapo stores.
have them open the repair manual and find out! or they should get an alldata subscription
or eventually someone here with the manual will post a pic (i have the monte book only so...)

They have descriptions of what each belt is for, but if you dont know what you have on your engine, it makes it more difficult to nail down what length each belt should be for your car. For example, the alt. belt for a non a/c car differs from a a/c car. Since most vehicles these days only have one belt or at most two, this type of set up can be a bit harder for the average parts counter person to determine without more input from the car owner.

When they go to look it up, there should be around five options to choose from. It will say Hurst equipped, 5 blade fan, No A/C, etc... I actually put an alternator belt on my car today. 55.5" v-belt. Part number 15555. I have an Olds 350 with all the brackets and accessories borrowed from an olds 307.
