i swapped a 402 big block into my 86 el camino. i was wanting to know what others did for power steering. i got rid of my power steering box awhile back but now with with this big block its alot harder to handle driving. so what pump and braket setup should i use on the motor. i have the transdapt driverside mount alternator braket if it makes a differance.

any help is appreciated

Hi what steering box are you using? I use a manual steering box out of a s10 it works good. But if you got a saginaw pump (aka) gm pump all you need is the proper brackets for the 403 but your going to have to move your alternator.

I've got a 402 in my malibu and we used a stock power steering pump off of the 402 and used the stock steering box from the malibu. Since the lines are metric on the steering box and SAE on the pump we had a line shop splice the high pressure line with a SAE side ( to the pump ) and a metric side ( to the steering box ) and there you have it.

the steering box in the car now is from is S10 i swapped a buddy awhile back for my power box. (didnt plan on drivin on the street much back then) ive got my old pump off the small block. so i could reuse that pump and put it in big block brakets?? and move my alternator to the passengers side? ive got a short water pump and i havent seen a pass side mount for the alt for use with a short water pump.

Hello, I too have swapped out my stock ps box on my 83 Monte for the S10 manual box. I kept all the linkage the same (drag link, inner/outer tie rods, and idler arm). I kept the pitman arm that came with the S10 box.

Is this OK? or was there different linkage manual vs. power?? Thanks, I'm looking to go back to street from dragstrip only.

Just switch the water pump out and put a long nose pump on. It will fit just fine then!!

Clanceman427 it is good that u used all you proper gear like (drag link, ect) all you needed is the manual box and pitman arm.I use all manual on the street no power at all even the brakes are manual and have no prob with it at all on the street. It even cleans up the engine bay with less things.
