Bigtime starter issue

since you're running headers have you considered hard wiring the starter and using a ford type solenoid?..that makes it easy with only having to connect the power wire to the starter which is dead until you turn the key. The three other wires hook up to the ford style solenoid. It also helps any issues with the solenoid on the starter heating up with the headers.

yep sure have and my ford style solenoid is sitting on my bench lol

just trying to figure out where to mount it

aqwsome and I'll give you a tip...do not try to ground it on the plastic wheel housing...my friends were standing there laughing at me when I couldn't figure out why the F it wasn't working..I forgot the casing needed to be grounded.. 😳

Those damn "senior" moments....

yeah im guessing ill mount it to the inner fender and not the fender well lol

well i decided to have some balls this afternoon after work. so i removed my flywheel and clutch, lifted my motor up and removed the cradle and installed the motor on my assembly stand and flipped it over. i bolted the starter on with one bolt. lined it up best i could, put a 3/8 bolt through the hole and hit it with a maul. then i removed the starter. i could see the perfect circle from the 3/8 bolt. i marked it with a center punch and barely drilled the block to have a good indent. then i botled the starter back up put the 5/16 bit through the hole and moved until i felt it fall in to the spot i started to drill. filled it full of Kroil (imo one of the best penetrating and cutting oils) and proceeded to drill while keeping the bit centered in the hole to the best of my ability. then i cleaned it all up and got out a 3/8x 16 tap and went to town in and out in and out until i had it all the way done. then i chucked up a 3/8 bit and marked how deep to counter bore on it. drilled it out then re chased the threads with the tap. starter bolts up just fine. just need a couple shims and everything will be good. motor back on cradle, clutch and flywheel installed again. back where i was but now have a starter bolted on lol. glad i saved my money lol. figured if i screwed it up bad enough i could always run the adapter on the starter anyways but all seems well. thanks guys

I'm glad this worked out ok for you.I' m had the same issue with my 400 and just bought Jegs staggered starter instead.i'm still having hot start issues though with any initial over 10 deg.i'm also running 2 gauge wire, heat blocking rap and ford selanoid.i may try and tap my block also because i have a much more powerful starter i use for 454.i didn't try the tap as i have a friend who got a block for racing 12:1 and it had the hole drilled wrong and has had problems ever since.
