When I went to the track this past wednesday, I volunteered to race in street class bracket racing called "Whoop *ss Wednesday". Long story short, got into the final race against an older guy in a mustang. He caught me wiping down my motor because I had a small trans leaks and he starts bitching at me saying I was making a mess all over the track when none of the officials said anything to me (the same officials who had been rooting me on all night). He then goes and rats me out to one of them and they were forced to inspect me on the spot. We found that I ripped my rear intake gasket, so they had to DQ me, but gave me a free pass next time I go out so I don't have to pay to get in. Then they escorted mr. douchebag mustang owner off the track and off the property.

So now I'm making mods to get more performance out of my motor. IE better carburetor than a 600 edelbrock, swapping in a ford 9 rear end, and slicks.

The help I need right now is in a carb recommendation.

I'm at the point where my engine is making more power and the carb is not supplying enough. Now that my malibu has turned more into a street/strip car, I'm in need of more on the top end instead of just cruising power. I'm having to make shifts in the 6000-6500 range (within cam operating rpms) to compensate for the gear drop from first to second.

Below is the drivetrain setup:

Engine
- 350 with .010 bore
- Lunati Voodoo 60103 (.489/.504 lift. 227/233 dur. @ .050, 110 LSA)
- 9.4 : 1 CR
- Iron heads, 2.02/1.60 valved, slight port work, 1.6 rockers
- RPM Air Gap intake
- Flowtech full length heads

Drivetrain
- 700r4 fully rebuilt (copycat monster transmissions)
- 2500 stall
- Currently 3.73 monte ss rear end
- In the middle of ford 9 rear swap

I've narrowed down my choices of carburetor to a Holley 650 double pumper, or Holley 700 vacuum secondary. Looking for input and any other recommendations.

I think you would be better off with a 780 cfm street avaneger...or you could go with a holley 740 dp- 4779 model #. BTW, what were your times???

Mr douchebag should have been happy that you were cleaning up a leak, that way you wouldn't get any on your tires and lose control and slide into the side of him. He probably ratted you out because he knew that he couldn't beat you. Good to hear that he got escorted off the property.

I don't know about size, but I would guess a vacuum secondary would be best.

I was running 14.2 pretty consistently with 2.0 60ft times, but that was because of constant tire spin. One of those passes I spun the whole quarter mile lol. This is why I'm also putting in a ford 9 housing so I can run slicks. That and I'm running that 600 edelbrock. So overall 14.2 with my big traction problems and small carb ain't bad.

Yeah the guy thought he was going to win by getting me DQ'ed. He wasn't getting good traction either and was constantly running 3 to 4 seconds slower than what he was estimating, while I was able to keep mine in the 14.2-14.8 range. The track was getting cold and it was late, so that played a big part too.

Mustang guys  . Did he refer to his car as a 'stang too? Glad to hear you took the high road. Get your tech issues in order and keep beating him legitimately. BTW, I'd go vacuum secondary too.

14.2 is decent for a daily driver type car. 8) What was your mph?

With those kind of times/power, I wouldn't hesitate to put slicks or drag radials on the 7.5. And that's saying something with how I feel about 7.5's lol. With the extra weight and power it takes to turn the 9" your times may not change much or get worse. However having the 9" would help in the future if you go for more power.

Let me get an honest opinion from you guys then. If I put in tubular control arms (fixed lowers, adjustable uppers) combined with a differential girdle cover, you think it would be worth slicks or drag radials?
