So I need some help again. This is the second straight day of minus 35 Celsius weather in Calgary and my block heater don't work. When I plug it in it blows the breaker on the front of my house. Checked the breaker and its fine when plugged into other vehicles. I think the issue is with the cord. Any idea to trouble shoot?

check the cord for wear or burn marks. also check the outlet your using for damage or burn marks. my mom had an out door outlet something got into and whenever we tryed to use it it would blow. hope this helps.

check the cord with a voltmeter, likely kinked or frayed somewhere and pulling too much amperage and luckily blowing the fuse instead of starting a fire !
When i lived in Alberta I used an in-line heater instead ( the Propane powered work van wouldn't start with only a block heater on cold days and my Monza ). It was a little more money than a block heater ( about $50 IIRC ) but it circulates the heated water thru the block and heater core unlike the block heater which just warms that area of the engine block.
Be sure to set it up on a outdoor timer to come on 2 hours before work ( anything more is a waste of power unless it's really cold enough to gel the anti-freeze ). Another good thing about it is that you dont have to get dirty and knock out a freeze plug to install it as the unit installs in about 10 mins in-line with your heater hose.

Keep warm I see it's -24f / -31c in Calgary today. I don't miss those days !
