I went & yanked the motor mounts off the original frame & 305 today to find out they are same part number as the ones I tried to use for my oil pan mock up (334971). I thought they where '80's Camaro but they're not. Looking in the GM parts book (both the '76-'81 & '82-'90 books) I find 334970 being what is need but they seem to be a hard to find part. It is odd that the original frame they worked (using rubber mounts) but not on the new frame (poly mounts.) I can't find any info other than GMPartsWiki.com listing from a '70's GM parts book showing the 334970 replacing the 334971. I would like to know what everyone is using with their small blocks before I let meself get raped on Ebay for the only set I found (but no p/n listed.)

There's taller ones for trucks and shorter ones for cars. They will come up as interchangeable on any application because they are in regards to the motors, but the frames are a different story. To use the factory gbody sbc mounting locations you need the shorter ones.

I know that car & truck applications are different but the car set I tried to use has the same p/n that my original frame had with the 305. It has been over 16 years since the 305 replaced the 229 & I don't remember any problems like I'm having now with the 350 going onto the new frame. I'll try latter this week to see if the set off the 305 will drop in.

Its like 5/16 different in height. Trucks are taller. 4x4 truck with the braces that run down to the bottom of the bell housing have car mounts with spacers under them. Summit offers the mounts/cups engine side. Car and truck, big and small block have the same frame side mounts.

I gave it another try to mock up the engine with the mounts that was on the 305 on the original frame. Still a no go as they are also a set of 334971. I check the bolt hole distance of both those on the 350 & the Energy Suspension mounts on the frame, both are 16.5". Now I am back tracking to see where I messed up on putting everything together. On the old frame I used stock rubber with those "71" mounts but yet they won't go on the mounts on the new frame. Has anyone else run into this issue? Should I just go with rubber?

Yea, it was '73 that the clamshells started to be used, the "71" was used to shorten up 334971. The link to the OER part doesn't work with our cars, those are for '73-'81 Camaro. The p/n 2292 is what I used to get the metal shell I needed for the Energy Suspension mounts. This is just making me think the poly mounts are not a good choice.

Uh, I hate to break it to you, but, I have them on at least four G-body cars. Three with big blocks, and one with a small block. That being said, I did the poly instert deal and had all sorts of problems trying to fit up an engine. Went and got cheapie mounts...well, the no name parts store version is still in place on my high compression, solid roller big block 79 Malibu.

I think its the inserts. They move too much and not the way you need them to

I'll pick up another pair of rubber mounts tomorrow & try the brackets I have. From what I have seen with the polys comparing to the pics of stock units is the taps looks like they put the narrow one on the bottom instead ot the top. Could it be Energy Suspensions goof on the design.

For what its worth...

You can reach most of the bolt or nuts with a long wrench via the fuel line access hole. When my poly inserts gave me fits, I raised the engine up with a cherry picker and swapped em out. I am kind of paranoid about loosing a hand or finger, so I put a couple short scraps of a 2x4 under the oil pan in the event the cherry picker failed while my arms and hands were in there.

I am not all knowing, but, I have messed with mostly GM cars since age 12, I am 41, I know of truck and car mounts. Further, 4x4 CV axle style trucks like 88-up have car mounts with spacers under them. I used the mounts from Summit because I didn't feel it was worth $40 to spend the day at the salvage yard in the snow to pull them with hand tools...since then I have used a few sets of them. Square Caprices, Impalas, Nova, Camaro and every other sort of car guy looking project plus some.

If you do hit the salvage, grab a license plate mount from a Buick Roadmaster or Impala/Caprice...it bolts up to a G-body and flips down and stays down for fueling.
