Blown Head Gasket

Gumout Carburetor Cleaner contains acetone, toluene, and carbon dioxide .I don't want to harp but experiments i have dune with gumout and rusted nuts and bolts told me that as long as gumout remained liquid " ...it was visibly better then say pb blaster or wd 40 as far as breaking the rust on steel bolts loose but as soon as it dried which wasn't long the pb blaster has the edge overall dew to fast drying only...I kind of got the idea that if the gumout were mixed with something oily ...I would have a winning combination...so whether that something were oil that's what I've used on occasion or transmission fluid like say dexron mercon...it could possibly be the best of both worlds , A bore scope would tell you if the cylinders are crusty /rusty it may be of use to crawl under your car and remove the oil pan also as that area beneath the pistons could reveal something as well as rocking any rod bearings from front to rear on there pins would say if you have a seized bearing on top of any rust".. ? And rocking them from side to side would show by feel if they are worn past 4 thousanths..many the day I spent under a car or truck checking bearings sometimes rolling bearings in place of tired ones

Speaking of carb cleaner, many moons go I had a 1970 GTO 400 gifted to me. The block was tight, great oil pressure, perfect compression, but the heads were too high compression for what I needed. I took off the heads, and the tops of the pistons had the usual 90k worth of carbon, but the rest of the block was very grungy. I decided to try an experiment. I put the short block on an engine stand. Remember Permatex Carb and Choke Cleaner? In gallon cans? Super good carb cleaner but if a drop got on you, it stank for a week. I filled the oil pan with the carb cleaner, and ran the oil pump with a drill. WOWSERS you had to see the black crud that flushed out of the lifter galleries! I would let it sit overnight, and flush it every day. Once it looked good, I drained the carb cleaner for later, flushed again with used oil, then the cheapest oil I could find, then fresh Mobil 1. Let me tell you, that internal cleaning left the block spotless. All the oil passages were clear. I put a Crane HMV278 cam and lifters in. I put some clean 4X low compression heads on. That engine went into my 1981 Malibu wagon. People swore I had a BBC in there, but it was a Pontiac 400 that ran like new.
