Sorry I forgot to mention the auburn came out of MC SS also but an earlier year.. a 84 I think, would that be my series since it is the same 7.5 and 7.625? But i doubt the pinion shaft has spun because it has play in it up and down.. the bolt snapped when I was unbolting it i didnt notice until i saw the bolt was too short then took a look and it was clearly broke

Tomorrow I Will post a video showing everything that happened and point out the metal chunks

the 7.5 has 26 spline axles....the 7.625 may have 28 spline axles but they both fit in the 7.5 housing...before you take the caps off number mark them with a punch so they go back on the way they came off

ok

If nothing is obvious then you popped a bearing and piece are spitting out from under the race.

IF U LOOK TO THE VERY BOTTOM UNDER THE PINION GEAR YOU CAN SEE METAL CHUNKS.. BUT ITS NOT FROM THE GEARS OR THE CASE... CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT IT IS

is this a contest... 😀

the picture isn't very clear, have you looked in the carrier to see what's missing?....if nothing is missing there it could be the pinion bearing parts...

The carrier is fine too.. spins smoothly.. I thought they could be pieces of the bearing too but they seemed too bulky you know.. IDK Im gonna finish pulling it down but ran into a problem. The bolt in the carrier that hold the pinion shaft broke off lol so Im gonna drill it out tomorrow and re thread the case if its messed up.. I also found a auburn posi until with about 30k miles on it for 100bucks i might grab it

Your better off using a sharp metal pick to work the broken pin you will find that it will be loose in the hole, And will unscrew rather easily. they break because the case is worn . I guarantee you will destroy whats left of the carrier if try to drill it out.

So I ended up drilling the screw out. Pulled the carrier and ring out. Only to find out the ring gear had cracked and the pinion gear snapped at the pinion bolt on the outside of the housing. Long story short, I picked up a complete rear end out of another 87 MC SS, The exact same as the one I have now 3.73 with posi for 200.. The rear end has 60k miles on it. The guy upgraded to a 12 bolt. So Im gonna recondition it nd paint it and slap it in the car with a new driveshaft and u joint... I will make sure to get the limited slip fluid and make a good seal!
