Boggin' In The Blazer

I used to wheel my old Blazer all the time... For being open diffs, no lift, and stock tires it was amazingly capable... I never once got it stuck because of mud or snow or anything. The only times I got it stuck was when I tried to go down about a 3 foot straight down creek bank, and the frame high centered, the rear tires were off the ground, and the peg leg front end couldn't get any grip on the mossy rocks in the creek... So I had to spend about 3 hours digging out under the car, and jacking up the rear and inching it forward until it got free.

I really want another 4x4... Something with bullet proof axles and drive shafts, big cushy suspension with lots of travel and ground clearance, and about 35 to 37 inch mud tires.

back when my zr2 was stock on 31x10.50 trxus muds. took days to clean all the mud out of the frame and from under the body. one tip is park the truck and put a sprinkler under it for an afternoon. she will come clean alot easier

There's no such thing as being a picture wh*re when you have a truck that looks that good! And yeah oldsmoletick I bet! I was really worried about breaking something but the blazer did just fine and I had alot of fun drivin it. And yeah thanks for the tip mebe yeah I'll try that cause there's still a shitload of weeds on the underbody now and my mom was kinda pissed about that. It was a good time though I gotta admit...

Thanks for the compliment. I put a lot of time into her. Can't wait to drop the ls1 into it and swap in the d60 that's in the garage floor. Bye bye ifs

An LS1 in an S10? That's sick! But while an LS1 is totally killer, I think id keep the 4.3. It just seems like it was made for the Blazer because they just go hand in hand with reliability and they don't need too much maintenance either. But yeah I love blazers, my mom has always owned one so I've been around them all my life, and they've never let us down. Now that I know how capable they are, I really want to get one. One thing I noticed though, and I don't know if any of you have had this happen, but when I floored it going through the mud for some reason the rpms would not go past 2500. This had me concerned because I would think that with the amount of converter slippage it would rev higher, unless the computer locks up the converter under full throttle. I don't know if this is normal but I just wanted to find out. I don't know exactly what gear it was in because I never heard it shift but I assume it was probably in 2nd or 3rd because it took about a half second after I jumped on it for it to actually start moving. Is this usually how it is with your cars? If it helps I had it in D and 4 high the whole time.

yeah i think theres an issue with something there. i can spin mine all the way to red line in every gear in the mud. and thats with 33x12.50x15"s. if you want to get a blazer do yourself a favor and get a ZR2 blazer. it comes factory on 31x10.50x15 and has a posi 8.5" rear with 3.73 gears and bilstien shocks.

as far as the ls1 goes. its not goin in until the 4.3 craps out. so far shes got 130,000 and going strong. but i have sitting there just waiting to be built and dropped in.

check us out over @zr2usa.com theres guys selling them all the time.

Are you going to shorten the Dana 60's, or run full widths with the tires sticking out about 8 inches to a foot on each side? I actually had a parts truck to do a solid axle swap on mine... But I wanted to keep it relatively stock width and I didn't have the money to shorten the housing and get custom shafts. And are you going with a coil spring setup or leaf spring?

That is a project I'd be very interested to see... I like mini 4x4's better than full size trucks for wheeling... But all the bullet proof axles are made only in full width. I've snapped a few D44 U joints in pickups while mudding, not fun gotta have 1 tons or better in my opinion.

Yeah I'd love to have a zr2 but I think I'm just gonna buy my moms blazer. She's giving me a great deal, almost half off the kbb value. Out of it's 11 year life she's owned it for 10 years so I know it's been well taken care of. It's got almost 150k on it and still running strong. She always undercoated the frame with rustoleum every few years so I know that's good. Yesterday was the first time it's ever been beat on so I know it's not too tired. It's also fully loaded too, LT trim, leather seats, sunroof, power everything. There's no major problems, but the rear wiper doesn't work and the heater core leaks a bit but that can be fixed. Anyways, kbb value is about $5,500 and she told me she would sell it to me for $2,800. Does this sound like a good deal to you guys? Oh yeah and mebe, you probably got atleast 100k miles before you drop that LS1 in. 4.3s are so damn reliable. Oh yeah and kornball my mom had a blazer like the one in your pic. It was a red 91 4x4 but it didn't last as long. It had about 100k on it when the motor crapped out and was only running on 4 cylinders. It didn't have such a good life but the one she has now is so much better. When I buy this blazer off her she's taking over my grandpas 04 trailblazer LT. This one has a 5.3 and only 60k miles. Yeah, were obsessed with blazers, lol.

Huh that's funny... My 94 was dead reliable the only thing that ever went funky on it was the EGR valve and I didn't even replace it I just soaked the lower half of it in acetone to eat up the carbon build up, and put it back on with a carbon screen gasket and it never gave me any trouble again. Oh and I used to rip the vacuum lines in the four wheel drive system all the time that was a pain in the butt. And somehow the aluminum base of the distributor got cracked where one of the screws held the cap down so I had to keep an eye on the distributor from time to time because it would shift around a little. But other than that, I'd still be driving it if it hadn't gotten hit and the frame bent.

My mom on the other hand had a 2000 or 2001 can't remember, what a hunk of crap that car was... Always something wrong with that one, ABS went bad, window motors died and all the electric doodads were finicky, it would cut out and the engine would surge at idle and hard to start, the transmission shifted hard and would slip, ball joints, lower manifold gasket blew, the ECU/ECM fried... And it wasn't anywhere near as powerful even though it was rated like 30 horsepower more and had the MPFI injection and mine had the SFI style injection, the 4x4 only worked when it wanted to, and it had a turning circle like a bus where as mine could practically turn around inside its own wheel base. Then the engine blew even though it only had 60,000 on it and mine had over 115,000 on it and ran like new.

The only thing that was nicer was the ride quality was a lot better and it was much quieter and had a better (Bose) stereo. It felt uncomfortable to drive to me though because I'm tall and fat and the doors extended into my space making it feel cramped, and you sit a lot higher in the seat in the 95 and later ones and it made it feel kind of tippy I'm sure it was just my imagination but I liked the seating position better in my 94.

Body lifts?? I thought that was the half assed way of doin it! Lol jk that's a sweet truck tho. Kornball that's kinda funny we had similar stories just with different generations. I gotta say once you work out all of the blazers common problems (fuel pump, heater core, intake gasket, wheel bearings, etc.) they are great all purpose vehicles. Anyways does that sound like a good deal to you guys?
