The hydroboost systems have a reserve canister that will give you 3-4 assisted stops if something like this happens. Not really any different than a vacuum assist system when the engine dies.
How often do you break a belt? I've only ever seen this happen once in my lifetime on the family's '78 Caprice station wagon.
