My question is would gn heads work on a stock v6 block(I know nothing bout the buick v6s so be nice. 😛)? The reason i'm asking is cause my buick sounds almost like a gn from out the tail pipe, it also moves with power. The tail pipe is an old og nothing special, and the headers are not after market. I just thought Id ask. This might be another 0 reply post. 🙁
A turbo 3.8 and NA 3.8 use the same heads. There are a few different 3.8 heads, but if your car is 1984 and up it 95% has 8445 heads. The only difference between a 8445 and a pre 84 head is that a 8445 head has bridged water jackets. Really, a 3.8 head doesnt have different flow numbers then any other head. A set of GN/turbo heads wont do anything for your NA 3.8. There is no real differences.
In reality you can take a NA 3.8, swap the intake and drop in some hypers and drop in in a turbo car and it will run just as fast as a stock turbo block. Its all the same, minus the turbo crank, which is only slightly stronger than a non turbo crank. Now im getting off topic.....
Yeah you can make a 3.8 sound the same as a Turbo car, it just wont have the turbo whistle. Which IMO is part of the cool part of the 3.8.
My GN has 208/208 at .50 duration cam and straight thru type mufflers. It sounds like a healthy moderately cammed small block V8 at idle. Especially at cold start up. That said once you get off idle that illusion is gone.
LOL, totally agree with above poster. I start my Regal up on a cold morning and it sounds like a cammed out badass, chugging and sputtering nice and lopey... then the car warms up and it sounds like crap.
Thanks Guys. I really wish I did have a turbo. or just put an entire caddy cts chassis and power train under the carriage. Then it would really fly. 😛 If anyone has thought of that or plan on it let me know. I'm sure west coast customs could do it. 😀
