1st thing i gotta say and what rules how i do this is that money is super fricking tight until i get someshit sold. i got the 350 out of the mali on saturday and only got the heads off for now. block is a 370010 give or take another 0 and i got 3932441 heads on her. originally came off a 70 gmc 1 ton motorhome chasis. she's 4 bolt and i planned on sticking with the 4'' bore. was looking into the comp xe 268 cam and running a 2k or 2.5k stall with my 700r4 thats is heavy and ready with 3.42's and a detroit true trac behind it. to cut costs i'm reusing the quad 4 barrel(but rejetted) and gonna p&p the holy living sh*t out of the heads but i's still thinking on the valve size. should i keep the 1.94/1.5 or go 2.02/1.6 then norm valves or stainless? goals for the car is to run low base 13's i hope and just be a strong weekend cruiser. hoping for it to make 375 to 400hp and still get good gas mpg when cruisng in od. what you guys think?

Sounds like you got it all planned out. I tell you what for about 2500 bucks you could build a pretty good motor. You should really think about a set of aluminium heads. I know that there expensive but they give you more power and less weight. I think that Patriot sells a set for like $795 or close to there. By the time you port and polish and put in different valves you'll already be half the way there in time and money. your going to use the stock intake? We ordered one off e-bay for my race car(1985 Monte Carlo CL) for like 90 bucks, that was to get it shipped here and everything. Also with those rearend end gears you'll have to be making lots of power to run in the 13's. I know a guy who's got a 1986 Gran Prix 305 NHRA K Stock Car that is supposed to run that fast but it have 5.38 rearend gears and drag slicks. I hope that I helped you out in some way.

350

thanks but i didn't take the time to lists all that i have. already got an 2101 edelbrock performer mani but think i'm gonna get an rpm or air gap type but in a cheaper version. i have seen the cheap patriot heads on ebay for about 5 to 600$ bare for a set i think. if i'm not happy with the power output then ill juice it a 100hp shot of laughing gas. 500hp otta make it really move!

Sounds like a good plan. Carcraft put a set of those patriot heads up against some vortec heads in the latest issue, the vortec performed slightly better and they are easy to come by and cheap.
A Solid lifter cam is a cheap way to make a bit of extra HP.....more maintenance but depends on what you're looking for.

350

i already tried the vortec option and got screwed with 2 sets of cracked badly heads and a set of broken valve seat. only the 1st crac ked set cost me any money. just haven't had any luck finding a good used set of 350 heads thats resonable. money is short. i just want a minimum of 350hp but if i can flow 400 with these heads i'll be a happy camper 😀

crazy, those 441 heads you have are a descent large chamber head so you could stick with them. Not sure about those ones but most of the older heads require hardened seats for the exhaust when you go with stainless valves. What pistons/compression ratio are you running?

350

it come stock with these 4 way releif cut flat top pistons which ill be reusing if they checkout. gonna keep closest to stock bore as i can. i guess stock compresion is 9:1:1 but i'd like 9:2 to around 9:5 which means im gonna have to get the block decked a little and trim the heads a bit but not too much. this weekend i'm gonna start p&p the heads since i got them all disassembled tonight. got plenty of stock valves to choose the best crop from so i dont have to spend the money on stainless valves. no idea if these heads have been worked over(hardened seats) before but i have noticed that there is 2 diff styles of valve retainers on them. one style is on each head. check with machine man tomorrow. this guy also does alot of derby motors up hear and talks highly of ceramic coating(which he does himself) the internals for about $300 something. coats the cc, valves, exhaust port(don't remember if he said intake), piston top and skirt, and crank bearings. you guys know anything about this?

if you want decent hp junk the 350 heads try a set of 305h.o. heads they'll bring the compression up and they flow a little better than the heads you have and they easy to come by in the mid 80s f-body

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT get 305 HO heads. Yes, the compression will go up..... waaaay up!! They are 58cc chambers. Even with a stock .039 head gasket, & assuming .020 down bore, you'll have 11.25:1 compression. YIKES!!! Thats barely do-able on race gas with iron heads.

Not only will the compression be way to high, they don't outflow 350 heads, especially 441's. 441's aren't anything special, but WAY better than any 305 HO casting.

With you current combo, you're in the 325 horse & 350-375 ft/lb range. If you want bang for the buck, don't waste your money porting & oversizing valves and milling for compression on the stock heads. Get yourself a set of Dart Iron Eagle SS heads. They are listed as 165cc runner heads, but actually spec out at 180cc, have either 67cc or 72cc "fast-burn" chambers, & come with 1.94/1.50 OR 2.02/1.60 valves. Springs are good for a .525 lift cam. They sell for $625 complete or $700 with 2.02/1.60 valves.

These flow like mad for the money & will bring you to that 360-375 horse & 400+ ft/lb mark.

Oh, and ditch the 2101 intake for an RPM Air-Gap.

I agree with '82355supreme' on the 305 heads, they are junk. I had a set that came with a 350 I bought for parts. The chambers are so small that they sheild the combustion area, and they are prone to cracking too. The heads you have will flow descent and the port and polish job can be a fun project and save you buying new heads.
