cam question

What are the engine specs for your 455? What about the rest of the drive train? What's the intended use? Just some things one needs to know to pick a good cam, but as stated above, you should call a pro to get a good recomendation, however I would suggest calling an OLDS engine builder for cam advice and not a cam manufacturer. A cam company will just try to sell you one of their generic cams whether it'll be any good for you or not. BTW, many people say Comp cams suck in Olds engines, so you might want to stay away from them.

mine is a 455 bored to a 461 with flat top pistons 10-1 or 10.5-1 compression its got a everyday use cam from the specs i found on it. its making between 425-450 hp right now, turbo 400 transmission with shift kit, i plan on it being a mean street/strip car that I can do some street driving around town some and take to the track and race.

Take anything read there with a grain of salt. LOTS of bogus information. For examples of some cams, go to realoldspower and look through the engine builds section.

We take everything on the internet with a grain of salt, dont we?

Well I know I do. I'm sure many do not though. Just want people to know the Olds FAQ contain a hefty amount of sodium....

im gonna give a call to lunati and see what they say. the one im lookin at from their cams for the olds 455 is one with a radical idle which is what I want lol. Just gotta make sure its not more cam thanmy motor can handle right now. Why do they say they need lower gears like 4.10 gears when i know people like to run 3.42 3.50 and 3.73 gears with big cams?
