To me a fast street car will do anything in the 12's/ per 1/4 mile. I want 400-500 HP with aluminum heads, but not the chinese pro comp/prostar/PCM heads so that means edelbrock, they are all made for big blocks so more work. I do not know any good Old's motor builders so anyone out there please chime in. I did talk to Mondello and there plan is a 400hp/470tq with edelbrock heads for $7500. I want a 350 because it is drop in for my car and with air, i don't have much more room. Plus i want to reuse my 200r trans as i think they can be built to handle up to 500hp and the first two gears are good for street use.

Modello? There's the problem right there. Rip-off artists of the 1st degree. Nothing but horror stories with those clowns. $7500+ for a 400 hp is rediculous. There are tons of Olds guys with very streetable small blocks in the 12's and for ALOT less. Don't give Mondollar a dime or listen to anything they tell you!

You have options if you want a fast, pump gas street car with a SBO. You can stroke it ( see builder for details ), you can use a 403, or you can build a big inch diesel block ( though most use the diesel for hard core racing ). You can of course just do it with a 350 too, but it's easier and usually cheaper going with more cubes. Your goals can be accomplished with alot less than $7500 and you don't NEED Edelbrock heads to accomplish your goals either.

All you need to do is contact an OLDS builder like Rocket Racing or BTR and they'll give you all the specifics you'll need. They will build you what you want for a decent price.

P.S. A local Olds guru just built my friend a 440 which is a 350 Olds diesel block bored and stroked. It has commonly available cast iron big block heads and is in a G-body Cutlass with 3.73 gears. With a p*ssy foot launch due to limited traction and letting off at the end ( still working the bugs out ), it still went 107 mph at the track and is very streetable. The engine definately cost less than $7500 and has tons more potential but had the engine built purposely not to go too fast for safety reasons ( it's his daughters car ).

Ditto. At least compare BTR, R.R. & or other proven Olds builders to Lynn whats his name son in law who took over Mondellos shop as his reputation in Olds circles is horrendous. I bet you find better results for a lot less money plus people who stand behind their work better than Lynn has. People ask how does he stay in business.. advertising dollars in magazines & the Mondello name brings in a stream of Olds newbs that don't know any better to check out his real reputation of those in the know & things like his return policy.

For anything streetable reliable pump gas & naturally aspirated cubes are your friend although a well built 350 & say a educated smartly done 125/150 shot of spray can be effective & a great set up as well. If you were doing a 455 your goal would be mid high 11s.

Thanks for the tips, this is my first try with an Old's. I did chevy and pontiac so i thought i would try something new. Chevy power is cheap but i first want to try to keep an Old's motor in my 442. I am in mid Michigan not far north of Detroit so i have two good names to start, anyone have more, maybe in Michigan? If not shipping is no big deal for me. You are all on the right track, i want a pump gas street SBO in my car but did not realize the stroker choices. thanks.
