I've been doing quite a bit of hunting on the web and this seems like the best place to get my question answered. I recently purchased a 1978 or 1979 Monte Carlo frame to use on my 1949 Chevy Pickup. The truck currently has a 1976 Camaro front clip that is fully rebuilt. The brakes are fully rebuilt, plus the calipers are much large. I would love to do a quick spindle swap...

Can anyone verify if I can use the 1976 Camaro Spindle on the Monte Carlo Frame?

I think it will not work directly because of a height difference. I am sure more people will chime in, and someone else will know for certain. If it is a height thing, you can get different upper arms to work with it.

This is the tall spindle swap that requires the aftermarket control arms to permit proper wheel alignment. The real problem is that the 76 F-body brakes aren't any larger than the stock G-body disks. If you really want the larger brakes, you need the 77-96 B-body spindles with the 12" brakes (note that not all B-bodies use the large rotors). This still needs the aftermarket control arms, as well as the 1LE Camaro front rotors to retain the 5 x 4.75" bolt circle.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm interested in possibly doing the swap... but I'm on a time crunch as well.

Which B Bodies had the larger 12" brakes?

Where are some good places to check for the control arms?

I checked on summit for the larger 1LE rotor (late 3rd and 4th gen correct) and didn't have any luck...GM only part?

I saw the complete kit on year one for $1400 but that made me laugh...

Any 77-90 with the 5 x 5" bolt circle. Usually that's the wagons, police, taxi, and some larger cars like the Olds 98 and Caddy Fleetwood. I'm not sure on the 91-96 cars.
