Mine used to get schooled by Geo Metros running on 2 of their original 3 cylinders.

Make it a long race rather than a quarter mile and you'll leave them far behind.

Umm... it topped out at 78 mph...with a 20mph tail wind. However, I have since solved the problem of the V6- I got rid of it!

lol. My buddy in Minneapolis had an 82 regal with a 3.8. After he put 20"s on it, it would take us half a block to catch some kids on Huffys from a stop 😳 😳 . My 4.3 in my Monte was a little better, unless it was an uphill start

Don't know what you were doing wrong. I got mine up well past 100 a couple times.

Standing on the gas until it would no longer accelerate? That is what I did. I used to do it with regularity too as I needed to when I was going up the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. I would top it out and run at the bridge full throttle. 78mph at the base, 35mph at the top. Perhaps yours had the optional 3.23 gears? With these cars, it may have helped top them out. Mine was aerodynamically limited with the combo of gears and engine.

MY 1981, which I pushed to those speeds, had the Pontiac 265 engine (125 hp peak output). I don't know what rear end it had.

My current 1984 Regal (231, all stock drivetrain) I've pushed to 85 easily, though no faster since the police around here are less apathetic.

Mine could hit 85 with the stock wheels and tires, but I switched to the 16's at the time and it lowered the top speed. It only had maybe 70k miles on it at the time.

I'd say the regular 5.0 can't beat rice. 😢

i would agree... a EG/EF 1.6l manual civic would rape a stock cutlass with highway gears and a stock engine...

no vtec..

Yeah when I had my 3.8 in my cutlass it couldn't get out of its own way and if I had the Air Conditioning on - it allowed me to travel back in time! It was really cool!

Not tryn to start a fight here or anything but what car did you have that had more then an 85 mph speedo and a 3.8? Just curious. My Monte with it's 4.3 and 323's went better then any na 3.8 I've seen and I could barely do more then 85.
