Hey gang. My 83 monte is running pretty good for an old 305. The problem Im having is the lockup function. At highway speed in cycles in and out and drives me nuts. Its probably because of the 275's i have on the rear but Im not sure. Can I just unplug it from the transmission or is their a way to put a switch in it. Also can I at a later time swap a non lockup converter with a higher stall.
Thanks for all your help :?: .
you can just unplug it at the transmission...I have read that 200 4r will run hot if the loc-up is not used but I ran mine unconnected for a long time with no problems at all
Is it the lower or upper switch on the brake pedal. Also thanks for the quick reply. I drove it a little over 210 miles yesterday and it did well. Its just that the lock up kept cycling back and forth. My guess is that it hasnt been run that long in many many years being that an older guy had it and didnt drive it much and let it sit out in the weather. Cant wait to see how it does on the way back this week.
On my 84ss ( also with the 350c trans ) I had the same problem and ended up wiring it to a toggle switch and that made the shudder you describe less noticeable. It also dropped the rpms 200-300 at highway speed when engaged which helped a little with MPG and performance.
I don't remember which wire on the brake light switch is, but I think the color corresponds to the one at the transmission. Please don't quote me. Easy way is unplug one and check your brake lights, if they quit, wrong one.
Unplugged harness from switch next to brake pedal. I think it was the cruise control that im currently not using. It has a green wire. I think I need the one above it that looks like it had a vacuum line or do like you all said and unplug it from the transmission. :? Any Pics.
I ran a toggle switch up to the dash so I could engage or not if I wanted. I works by grounding so it's an easy fix. I left the brake switch intact so it would disengage when I braked.
What wire did you tap into. Any diagrams or is it a ground to toggle and wire from toggle to the wire on the switch. Or do I have to do something different.
