O the Quest for H.O  I have to ask what is the diff in the 305 and the 305H.O  the intake is all i can find. There is no diff in the cams but the axle gears for the most part.If i am wrong can some one tell what i missed in the 20 years of building and scraping engine and cars?

I do believe there is an H.O. specific head that Gm used on these engines, I could be wrong

the 305 would sink to the bottom of the lake in 5 secs...the H.O. did it slighly slower....

haha you guys are hilarious! im preetttyyy sure itsa 305 cuz it has all 6 sparkplugs!! jk its FOR SURE a 305, ive owned a couple 307's so i know one when i see one, also this is probaly the 10th 305 ive had, only difference i can see is the valve covers on this look different from the pre-87's ive owned,(all others were the smooth bubble kind and this one has grooves along it) and when i saftied it, the mechanic was having a hard time doing something on the computer because it was a VIN 9 and he mentioned to look into it further that it might have H.O. heads on it. every other cutty or regal ive owned has been 85 and under so i wasnt sure if they started throwing H.O.'s in the later years. on another note, is there any vehicles you guys can think of that i can take a duel snorkel or ram air off of and use it for the 305? do you think it'll make any difference? i know everyone has nothing but sh*t to say about 305's, yah yah they're boat anchors and not worth the steel they're made of, but for now its what ive got and it still runs pretty good so until it calfs or i find a decent 350, im gonna bag the hell out of it and try an make it gimme every pony it can without dumping a cam or anything else in it. settle down...i know someone wants to tell me i can swap all the 305 parts to a 350, but when i find a 350, i want anything i put in it to be new so i wouldnt even waste my time wearing it out in the 305. 😀

tell me if im wrong but isnt a HO motor a motor with heads that have bigger intake and exhaust valves? i could see a different intake as well but i always thought it refered to valve size/duration.

The high output 305s IIRC had a different head casting and used flat top pistons instead of the dished ones. Thats the only major difference i know of.

The L69 305 H/0 is a lot more motor then the LG4 305. The H/O has a aluminum intake with a 795cfm Quadrajet carburetor,Cross-fire Camaro heads, 9.5:1 compression with flattop pistons and Corvette L-81 camshaft and would pull hard to 5500to 5700 rpm.

anyone know what rpm you get the most jam outa a regular 305? im pretty sure the only H.O. im rolling with is the chick i met at Walmart...

Yep, the L69 also has larger jets in it carb, more aggressive spark timing programmed into the ECM's PROM chip, higher stall torque converter, and a higher flowing 4 bolt flange cat conveter. 190 HP in stock trim in good tune, can easily be bumped up to 250 HP in street legal trim.

Why does the passenger side have perimeter valve covers and the drivers side have centerbolt valve covers? or am i imagining things?? The pink elephant pointed it out......Man i gotta stop drinking Mickeys!! If i'm wrong then excuse this post..
