cant get my 78 monte carlo started

I Can't get my car to start, it has a new battery, the starter and alternator was taken in to the local auto store and everything passed... It clicks once as i turn the key and no sound after that... Before it died on me i noticed it was having trouble starting, here is a youtube video of how it sounded before it started.

Check your wiriing. You might have a loose ground or power wire.

Also at start up it sounded like it was struggling because the timing is off.

Thank you so much I'll look into it! after taking a closer look i found a burn out spark plug wire that make contact with the headers, it looks really fried. do you think that might be the problem?

Yeah could be your problem roght there. If its grounding out everything then could be killing all your power.

Anything else working? Not interior but what ever is hooked into the main harness?


Remove the plug wire. See if it starts.

all my lights work except for my rear driving lights... pretty much i wouldn't be able to drive it at nights
Tonight I'm replacing all my spark plug wires with new ones, i hope i didnt mess up the distributor

Its just a pump gas 383. Im a 79 monte.

Nothing should have gotten burnt out. You can pull the plug wire off and see if it starts. Or atleast tirns over.


The lights are on a sifferent haress. Our cars only have 2. Engine and body.
