dont like them

I would be interested in your logic and facts to support why "you don't like them" other than you think they might be too expensive.

I have been running red tops ever since Johnson Controls aquired Gylling Optima and have enjoyed an average life span of 7-8 years. I currently run 4 vehicles with red tops in them. (2) of them sit in storage for 10 out of 12 months with a trickle charge on them as recommended by Johnson Controls.

Most of the stories I hear about Optima failures are related to the user not reading and understanding proper care and maintenance of a battery with AGM spiral cell technology. You kill any battery by leaving lights on as an example or not keeping a charge on it while in storage and you will severely shorten it's life. There are several JCI power solutions plants making batteries in the USA and Mexico. The quality record at the Monterrey MX facility is among the best.

I have a redtop Optima in my Lincoln that is probably 8+ years old and one in my Taurus that is 6 years old and I also have a yellowtop staggered deep cell in my Monte that is probably going on 15 years old, the Lincoln and Monte batteries are on maintainers when I am not driving them and I have never discharged either one.

I was a lttle disappointed in the service I got out of my first red top. I had hoped to get 7 or 8 years. The truck is dailey driven and I never ran the battery down. It is pretty hot here in the summer though (Houston). Still, I replaced it with another. I love how it never pukes acid or corrodes the battery cables. Hopefully the new one will do better.

I had a red top in my GP a few years ago and when I was doing some work in the exhaust the vise grips turned and contacted the battery cable on the starter. I didn't realize that until someone told the red top started smoking. The ground cable melted the battery's side terminal. Without charging the battery I used the top post on the red top and put on another ground cable and the car started right up. Last I heard that battery was still in one of the race cars that we sold. When you get a good red top they are great.
