I have a question about the fitment of carpeting, and I think I already know the answer. Will the carpet from a wagon work on a 2 door? I have the carpet from my '81 Cutlass wagon, which is in good shape, and the carpet in the '80 Malibu 2 door is badly faded. I suspect that the wagon carpet won't work in the Malibu, because of the cutouts for the front seat belts and B pillars in the wagon. Just looking for confirmation. Thanks in advance.

Jeff,
I believe you can use the carpet from the wagon. I noticed when I removed my original carpet, it had a square filler piece on each side..by the C-pillar and rear seat bottom. It was just stapled in place.
Try laying it out on the ground to determine if it's all intact. I guess that's how GM made the carpeting universal for 2 dr-4dr's and wagons. Of course when you purchase a new kit, there's nothing cut out...you do the trimming yourself.

Thanks Jack. I remember those filler pieces from when I took the carpet out of the wagon. Its a good idea to lay the wagon carpet out on the floor first. As I said in the opening post, I'm a bit concerned about the placement of the cutouts in the wagon carpet for the front seat belt anchors, and whether they'll show on the 2 door coupe.

Jeff,
I forgot about the placement of the seat belt anchors. Actually, on the wagon it would be on the B-pillars and the floors....but wouldn't it also be anchored to the B-pillars on the coupe as well...just setback more?
The cutouts may show...you're right. You'll have to do some close scrutiny to see what you're working with.

On the NOS reproductions website they only list carpets for the 2 door G body so you must be right about them being different....

I bought my carpet from stockinteriors.com. They were made to be a universal fit for 2-dr's, 4-drs, and wagons...you just had to trim to your discretion. Good product, especially with the mass back coating.
