Nice saw. Almost finished with Hurricane Michael debris. Had some aged hickories and cherries to cut. Big assed trees for sure, no fun but..
2 huskies took up the task.
Problem was we ran out gas
I have a new farm boss, and have the same complaints as you. It also doesn't feel balanced right, but I did upgrade to an 18" bar which might contribute.
That's a nice find getting one that wasn't molested by use! Someday I'd like to find a older smaller saw to use for limbing!
My Farm Boss came with an 18" bar. The Farm Boss was a good runner and it was just the right size IMO. It was big enough to handle most jobs but not so heavy that I didn't want to use it.
I was glad to find this 028 though. I'm not really crazy into chainsaws, but after running that ported 066 I can see how this could become an addicting hobby. I don't heat the house with firewood so it's not something I use all the time but still I love having saws around and I definitely wouldn't mind collecting a few more eventually.
I have a 46 and 49cc Jonsered. I cut a lot of firewood with it. I would never buy a saw without a decompression button. The only issue was the orginal bars seized at the end sprockets. They have sat for years, fired up and ran great with fresh gas this year.
No real need for decomps on small to medium sized saws. Jonsereds are nice saws though. I think they are made by Husqvarna now. I would've liked to try out a Husqvarna but there is so little dealer support for them I'd be up sh*t's creek without a paddle if I had to warranty or service it. Whereas there is one really good Echo dealer nearby and there are more and more Stihl dealers by the day. Even though this 028 is an older saw I can still get basic service parts for it like filters, spark plugs, bars and chains from the dealer.
With the gas issues we have had. Here is what I do.
I run Aviation fuel in all my stuff that I do not use on a regular basis. Chainsaw, pressure washer and generator. I habituality add a capful of Techron occasionally.
AV gas is leaded and does not go bad. just make sure you have a good gas cap. Get some and pour in a container. It will evaporate and leave no residue. Look at all the planes at the airport that are rarely used. They just drain any condensation off. I started using it years ago when i had my airboat. In the 2 strokes i use synthetic oil also. Little more money but you run at 100/1. No deposits which create valve issues, piston scuffing and rings sticking.
